LADY HURRICANES fell behind by eight in the second period. "Part of our problem is that Nancy (Walsh) wasn't feeling well. She only made one of five shots or so in the first quar ter and she's normally a 50 percent shooter. That makes a difference," Penza said. Koehler's eight points in the third quarter helped Mundelein take a 36-26 lead into the fourth. "I think we were playing a little more agressively defen sively and they weren't ad- continued from page 22 justing to Peggy offensively," Graham said. "We've been in this tour nament and that's the way it's going - one or two points. They're into Christmas instead of basketball and they just weren't sharp tonight," Penza commented. Despite sitting out part of the game, Walsh still dropped in 10 points for the Hurricanes. Kim Kuper led Marian Central with 11 points, while Beth Penza added eight, all of which came in the second half. Jeff Jayko played, but was still slowed by an ankle injury. He scored 14 points, while Jeff Preston led Johnsburg with 16. Wynstra scored 27 for North Boone, while Giesele finished with 12. North Boone shot off to a 13-9 lead in the first quarter and held a 24-21 lead at halftime. John sburg was able to come back in the third quarter to take a slim one point lead, but North Boone took the lead right back and led 42-38 going into the final quarter. North Boone outscored John sburg 13-8 in the final quarter to capture the win. Peterson, who was held to only two points in the first quarter, woke up and popped in 10 points in the second quarter, mostly short tur naround jumpers. He finished as high scorer for both teams with 24 points. Pat Dunne stole the ball from a Central player with just second left on the clock and broke for the Warrior basket. With Central defenders right behind him, he scored. Wood stock only held a 28-26 halftime lead. McHenry scored the first two buckets of the third quarter to take the lead for the first time, 30-28. Craig Hill's two free throws gave McHenry a 34-30 lead. But Central came right back and Howell's basket gave the Tigers the lead back, 37-36. The Warriors out-scored Central 8-4 in the remaining minutes, including Scott's half- court shot, to give McHenry a 44- 41 third quarter lead. Central took over again and held a five point lead for most of the fourth quarter. That was until Scott's missed free throw and Peterson's rebound shot to tie the contest. 4# "It was not planned at all," said Ludwig on the play that tied the game. "I thought about having Scott miss the free throw on purpose. I decided on taking the ,chance on making or missing the shot. I felt their was still plenty of time (14 second- s)," explained Ludwig. "If there was only three or four seconds left on the clock, there would be no doubt to miss it on purpose." The lead changed hands twice in the first overtime, but the period ended in another tie on Peterson's shot. In the second overtime, McHenry took the . first lead on a jump shot by Dunne with several defenders on him. The game was tied at 68-68 on a breakaway layup by Howell. The Warriors, however, put it away on Freund's shot with two Howell scoring Dunne 14 points.
