Ludwig was not only happy to ^ain the milestone, but was pleased with way his Warriors handled the West Suburban Trojans. "Our second half effort was just super," And he added with a smile, "Anytime we can score 48 points in a half Til be happy." _ The win raised McHenry's overall record to 3-5. The Warriors will face the Wood­ stock Blue Streaks today at 3:45 p.m. Woodstock defeated Maine West on Monday. Both teams started out as cold as the weather outside the gym. The Warriors hit two-of-13 from the field, while the Trojans made two-of-14 as the Warriors led at the end of the initial period 8-6. Corey Scott, Craig Hill and Mark Peterson got the Warriors a 15-10 lead 'midway in the period and the Warriors managed to hang on to a slim 21- 18 lead at the intermission. "We played better defense today, than at any time this season. At times their press bothered us, but we recovered nicely," Ludwig said. After Downers Grove scored two quick baskets to narrow the margin to one, the Warriors took command. Pat Dunne's basket, two free throws by Scott, and Hill's three point play put the Warriors up 28-20. "We told the kids they needed to be patient until we get some people healthy," said Johnsburg coach Ben Beck. "It's nice to played a smart game, but we need to improve." It was the second time Johnsburg met up with Burlington. Johnsburg defeated Central 64-58 in the Marian Central Holiday tournament just before Thanksgiving. The Skyhawks fell behind in the first quarter in what Beck called a slow start for both teams. Burlington led 10-8 after one quarter, but Johnsburg took over in the second quarter and took a 24-17 lead into halftime Both teams scored 19 points in the third quarter, but Johnsburg outscored Central 21-12 in the final quarter to take home the win. "We had some steals which we converted into some baskets," said Beck on the second half difference. Jeff Jayko led Johnsburg scoring with 18 points, while Jeff Nichols scored 16 and Joe Majerdk 12. Jeff Preston only scored four points, but pulled down 12 rebounds. Kurt Len- schow, who scored 17 against Johnsburg earlier in the season, was held to 12 points, high for Burlington. Beck was real pleased with the play of two juniors, Nichols and Mark DuRei. Both teams showed the effect of too much turkey over the holiday. Hie Trojans committed 25 miscues to the Warriors 23. Winters scored games of 290, 253 and 288 in league play. It is the highest score ever posted in McHenry County. Although V currently residing in Burlington, -' Wise., Winters used to live in • McHenry. 2A football champs to be honored Marian Central Catholic High School will have its sports banquet honoring the 1963 class 2A championship football team on Sunday, Jan. 8 at John Evans Inn in Crystal Lake. The frosh- soph football teams, cheerleaders and pom pon squad will also be honored. Marian surprises Tigers at classic HAMPSIRE - "We proved we could play with the Fox Valley teams," senior Chuck Hartlieb said after Marian Central posted a 65-55 win over Crystal Lake Central in the Northern Illinois Classic at Hampshire High School Thursday night. CL Central was picked to win the Classic, but Marian's win diminished the Tigers'hopes to the consolation bracket, while the Hurricanes advanced to the winners bracket. "That's by far the best game we played, especially the first half. We played some intelligent ball. To beat the number one team is always a real nice bonus," Marian Central coach Hans Rokus said. After taking the lead in the first quarter, Marian kept the McHenry swimmers lose to Streaks The McHenry Warrior swimming team earned one more first than Woodstock in a meet last Thursday, but ended up losing 91-75 for its third loss of the season. McHenry scored six firsts, but the Warriors were hurting depth wise. "We were missing five simmers," said coach Mike Shanahan. "When we meet them again it should go right down to the last relay." Greg Hall and Terry Harth each won two events. Harth captured the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:10.47 and the 500-yard freestyle in 6:06.74. Hall won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 25.09 and the 100-yard freestyle in 56.72. Craig Karczynski won the 100- yard butterfly in a time of 1:12.36.
