JANUARY 6. 1984 [ i The McHenry-Fox Lake Area La Leche League will hold its next meeting Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 7:30 p.m. and the topic will be the Advantages of Breast- ^ feeding. The league is a self-help group dedicated to promoting good mothering through breast­ feeding and mother to mother contact and help when needed. Pregnant women will find this meeting most helpful in making an informed decision about breastfeeding. The group has a lending library with many outstanding books on childbirth, nutrition, and breastfeeding. Nursing babies ai e always welcome at all monthly meetings and other functions. Sewell exchanged promises of marriage Saturday, Dec. 31, in Crystal Lake Christian Church, Crystal Lake. ^The bride is the daughter of Eugene and Donna Maris, 3217 Eastwood Drive, Wonder Lake. Milton and Lois Sewell, R. R. 1, Skidmore, MO, are the parents of the bridegroom. ^Officiating clergymen for the 2 p.m. nuptials were Dick Sargent and Darrel Malcom. Special music was performed by soloists, Mary Walker and Doug Maris. The organist was the bride's aunt, Marilyn Maris of DeKalb, IL; and the minister's wife, -Joanne Sargent of Crystal Lake, was the pianist. A highlight of the memorable occasion was wheAthe bride and groom sang to eaoh other. The bride wore* a sheer knit gown, lined with acetate taffeta, and embellished with Chantilly lace. The fitted empire bodice was styled with a mocfifoed Queen Anne neckline and adorned with simulated pearls and sequins.' IN Aux. hosts essay winners at banquet Women's club meets Jan. 11 Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600 and the Ladies Auxiliary have held the judging \ of the Voice of Democracy essays entered by students from McHenry High School East Campus, McHenry High School West Campus, and Johnsburg High School. O One essay from each of the three schools has been for­ warded to the judging of posts and auxiliaries in the Veterans of Foreign Wars 5th District. They were submitted oy Greg Hajek, McHenry East; Ronald Naus, McHenry West; and Rich Schaller, Johnsburg. Having placed first on the local level, they are now competing with essays from other high schools in the fifth district. The students and their parents will be guests of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600 and the Ladies Auxiliary at the VFW 5th District Voice of Democracy Awards Banquet, which will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, at VFW Post 4308, Lake Villa. The Veterans of Foreign Wars 5th District covers posts and auxiliaries in Lake, McHenry, part of Kane and DuPage counties. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600 Voice of Democracy Chairman is George Loser and the Ladies Auxiliary Chairman is Gerry Kuck. On Wednesday, Jan. 11, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., the McHenry County Christian Women's Club will hold its first meeting of the new year. This month's con­ tinental breakfast, entitled, "In the Looking Glass," will be held at TC Spirit's Restaurant, 6305 Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake. A special feature, "Looking Good," will be a clothing and fur fashion show. The fashion show, coordinated by a women's ap­ parel shop in Crystal Lake, will feature sport clothes and dresses; and a surprise bonus of gift certificates will be given away. Early last week -i on th€ morning of Dec. 27 - twins were^ born at Memorial Hospital to establish an interesting record. Michelle Johnson, R.N., ob­ stetrical-pediatrics department, observed that the birth of twins Jamie and Michael to Mr. and Mrs. James Nye, McHenry, established a record for the most twins born during a calendar year at Memorial Hospital -- 13 sets of twins, during 1983 Jamie was born at 4:49 a.m. on Dec. 27 and Michael was born a? 5:01 a.m. Jamie weighed 5 pounds, 15 ounces, and Michael weighed 5 pounds. 9 ounces. A search through the hospital records indicated that during the year a total of 698 births were recorded. Mrs. Johnson listed these twins born during 1983 at Memorial Hospital where the expanded and remodeled ob­ stetrics-nursery department is a pleasant setting for this im­ portant family experience: Jan. 9 - Kelly and Kimberly Zimmerman, born to William and Diane Zimmerman, Woodstock.
