Henry attends Marian Central and lives with the Bert Beer family of Woodstock. The invitation to Henry came from Mrs. Laura Spice, Spanish teacher at Marian Central. Mrs. Spice placed one restriction on Henry if he came to speak to her classes - he could speak no English in the classes, only Spanish. The students prepared questions, also written in Spanish, which were submitted to Henry beforehand. Henry answered these questions, and more. >The major portion of his presentation was about life in Colombia. He described the poverty and desperation that exists in the lives of the majority of the people of his country. Henry outlined the poor living conditions that exist for most in Colombia. He also emphasized how fortunate people in the United States are to have a higher standard of living and such excellent educational opportunities. Literacy is the exception rather than the rule in his country. It is his hope to work with his people in a program called "Alfabetizacion" which helps poor people of Colombia become literate. Henry's future plans are to become a doctor and help his people.
