Schools ® "Psychology for Men" at McHenry County College Johnsburg parents curriculum orientation McHenry Cpunty College 'Counselor Jim May will be teaching a new personal development course at the college beginning with the spring semester. Worth one hour of credit, Applied Psychology For Men is designed to promote and increase communication skills and self-awareness among male students.r Beginning Jan. 20, class members will meet Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon in Room 143 of the Main Hall Building on the MCC campus to discuss problem solving and goal setting; to consider the elements of stress, personal relationships and career - - family decision making. ? Some of the issues to be covered will include male sex roles, sexism, sexuality, feminism, fathering, friend­ ships, communication, ex­ pressing feelings, sports and violence. In addition, planning in­ formation related to college support services, degree op­ portunities and course offerings will b be reviewed. One may register in person up to, and including, the first day of class. At the time of registration it is necessary to pay all tuition and fee charges. The registration office at MCC is open Monday - Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. On Friday register bet­ ween 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. On Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium, Johnsburg High School will host a Parents Curriculum Orientat ion program. Invited to attend this event are the students and parents of next year's freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior year classes. The program will provide valuable information regarding both the process of career choice and the importance of prudent course selection during high school years. Activities are LOYOLA GRADUATES Loyola University of Chicago will graduate more than 800 students during its mid-year commencement on Jan. 14 at Medinah Temple, Chicago. Local students scheduled to graduate are Judith Gscheidle and Larea Jelinek. MCC DEGREE PROGRAM Information on a bachelor's degree completion program for students with two years college credit will be presented at McHenry County College on Jan. 17 from 6- p.m. to 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the student lounge. designed to help parents become better informed and prepared to assist their sons and daughters in the course selection process. They include: 7:30 p.m. - Overview of high school curriculum and graduation requirements - Mr. Gough. * 7 :45 p .m.- Departmental requirements and career ad­ visement - Mr. Spraetz and Mr. Kriewaldt. 8:15 p.m.- Group session for eighth grade parents. Department coordinators and counselors will be available for individual family conferences. As the job market and economy continue to pose real Challenges to graduates at the high school level, the school feels it is important J;hat students make the most of thev opportunity available to them in high school. They say parents attending this program will be taking a positive step in en­ suring wise course selections on the part of their sons and daughters. For this reason, all parents are urged to attend. Four McHenry area students named to President's list at Morris College David Thornton studies in Europe T David Thornton, a senior speech communication studies major at Bethel College and the son of Robert and Nena Thorn­ ton, 6604 W. Mason Hill Rd., McHenry, will study in Europe this January. Robert Morris college has announced its President's Honors List for the last term. Recipients of the honors award have maintained a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the term. Those named to the list from this area include Therese Seaver, 7105 Mohawk Drive, Wonder Lake, who attended McHenry West Campus. Her program was legal secretarial, in which she maintained a 4.0 grade point average. Others were Gina Rittorno, 815 West Broadway, McHenry, who attended Johnsburg High school, legal secretarial, GPA 4.0, and Jo Lynn Glosson, 4703 West Home Avenue, McHenry, attended McHenry West Campus, legal secretarial, GPA, 3.5, and Deanne Brooke, East Campus, secretarial, GPA, 3.72.
