'Bus Stop' plays McHenry PAGE 3-PLAINDEALER -WEDNESDAY. JANUARY 25, 1»*4 The Drama Club of McHenry West Campus will present William Inge's Bus Stop on the final weekend of January. This comedy-drama, which will be presented in the West auditorium, is concerned with a group of travelers who are stranded in a small cafe in Kansas. Dr. Lyman, a college pnof$$sor, is traveling to nowhere with his usual com­ panion, a flask of whiskey. Cherie, a singer, is trying to escape the amorous clutches of Bo Decker, who wants to marry her. Bo's companion, Virgil Blessing, is along for the ride to keep an eye on Bo. Carl, the bus driver, brings his menagerie to Grace's Diner. Elma, a high school girl, cleans and waitresses for Grace. She is very impressed with Dr. Lyman. Will is the local sheriff. He becomes involved in the life of each of the characters and in­ sures order in the cafe. Each character undergoes a dramatic change. The audience is treated to an evening of sharing in the needs, wants, victories and defeats in these characters' lives. Bus Stop will be presented Jan. 27 and 28 at 8 p.m. Tickets for the play may be reserved by contacting West Campus at 385- 7077 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. or they may be purchased at the door. The West Campus Drama Club will present the play Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27--28, at 8 p.m. Church offers class Lord and Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church-- Wisconsin synod- is offering a course of instructions relating to the differences which exist among the various Lutheran church bodies in the United States. The course will be given at the church, located on Route 14, half-way between Crystal Lake and Woodstock, on Wednesday evenings beginning Jan. 25. The five- week class will begin a at 7:30 p.m. and each «ession will last ap­ proximately one hour. Anyone interested in such a course of instructions is welcome to attend. There will be no charge for the course. Additional information regarding this course may be obtained by calling Pastor Richard Wm. Mueller at 455- 4175. Capping ceremonies for 48 student members of the Class of 1986 at the School of Nursing at St. Anthony Hospital Medical Center were held at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, in St. Peter Cathedral. Capping signifies the successful completion of the student nurses' first semester of studies. Participating in ceremonies was the Rev. Father Thomas G. Doran, chancellor of the Rock- ford Diocese, who gave the address. Among those receiving caps were Cynthia Gunderson, Wonder Lake, and Nancy Popovich, McHenry. FOR RETARDED The regular monthly meeting of the board of directors of the McHenry County Association for the Retarded will be held Thursday, Jan. 26, at 4001 Dayton Street, McHenry. Johnsburg Junior High School has scheduled parent-teacher conferences for the week of Jan. 30 through Feb. 3 Specific days and times set aside for conferences during that week are Thursday, Feb. 2, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 3, from 12:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Students will be dismissed from school at 11:35 a.m. Thursday and Friday. Parent-Teacher conferences are held to discuss students' educational progress. Parents are to call the school for an appointment starting Monday, Jan. 23, through Tuesday, Jan. 31, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. A conference between a student's parents and his teachers is Very important and helps the student get the best possible education to meet his individual needs. The parent can share such things as student's attitude, health, family relationship, interests and social factors. The teacher can report on the student's attitude and relationship in school, progress in studies, work habits, samples of work and recommendations. r Parents are asked to call the school starting Monday, Jan. 23 through Tuesday, Jan. 31, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to schedule a conference with the child's teacher. T.D. Sabatka named to Who's Who • Timothy D. Sabatka, McHenry, was among 38 Lewis University students chosen for inclusion in the 1984 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Sabatka was chosen on the basis of his scholarship ability, participation and leadership in academic and extracurricular activities and service to the university and community.
