Decker denied the appeal of Richard Kimmel of Lake Zurich for a permit to install video games and jukeboxes in unincorporated McHenry county. Noting that the number of picnic beer permit requests made some councilmen pass over them lightly last year, all picnic beer permit requests have to be made in writing to, and approved by, the McHenry City Council. Pepping reported the General Fund revenue projection of $1,899,600 for FY 1982 should be within $10,000 or 0.5 percent. After more than a year of debate and two defeats, McHenry Mayor Joseph Stanek's interpretation of the city code concerning water line extensions was affirmed by a majority of the Council. The mayor's proposed amendments to the code passed by a 6 to 1 margin. There was a time when commuters arriving in McHenry waved goodbye to friends who continued on to Ringwood, Lake Geneva and Williams Bay. That was yesterday. When these com­ muters stepped off the last evening " train Wednesday evening they knew the big, diesel-fueled locomotive would remain in place for the return trip Thursday morning. A change in the health department ordinance, adopted by the McHenry county board, allows suspension of any permit issued by the department to establishments serving or selling food or beverages if a permit holder violates the county's public health law. The amended ordinance provides that an immediate suspension of the permit can be made whenever the Health depart­ ment or its representatives find conditions which constitute danger to public health or if a permit holder or establishment operator ignores, neglects or carelessly responds to notices on corrections issued by the department or has interfered with an enforcing officer in performance of his duties. The McHenry Zoning Board of Appeals voted 6 to 1 to recom­ mend denial of a variation request sought by Hillcrest developers. The variation request concerned the 88 unit apartment complex which is currently under construction on the southeast corner of Orleans and McCullom Lake road. Scott Seaborn, campaign coordinator for Northern Illinois Medical center (McHenry hospital) announced that the hospital's fund raising efforts have surpassed $1,000,000. An incentive program en­ couraging early retirement for District 156 high school teachers was adopted by the school board following executive session. FEBRUARY The Illinois Commerce Commission has set the hearing schedule for the pending water rate increase requested by the Lakeland Park and McHenry Shores water companies. Late last year the companies, both owned by Thomas P. Mathews, petitioned the ICC for a general rate increase. The move was vocally opposed by local residents and the McHenry City Council voted to appear at the hearings as an objector. Traffic control signs in McHenry may, of necessity, be of uniform size and height, according to Illinois Depart­ ment of Transportation specifications, if the McHenry City Council decides to par­ ticipate in an IDOT grant. The state Transportation depart­ ment has fluids available for updating traffic control signs, other than electric traffic lights, within municipalities. Cannon Hodges, charter member of the McHenry Area Rescue: squad, has been chosen from nominees in every county in the state to receive the "Illinois Rural Health" award. Firemen from two McHenry companies and Wonder Lake Fire department responded to a blaze that caused an estimated $30,000 damage to a home on the west side of McHenry. Feb. 6 is the birthday of President Ronald Reagan, and among the celebrants will be 150 students and teachers of first grade classes at Ringwood.
