He plays a newspa­ perman who occasionally needs help from the com­ puter genius kids. But Gail has another interest beyond acting. He has assembled a group of talented musicians and is cutting a LP of his own songs. Before he became an actor. Gail was a musician, playing piano bars in the Midwest. But he eventually shifted his interest to acting. His first role was in a San Francisco stage ver­ sion of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." So why is he going back to music? After "Barney Miller" ended. Gail says he "felt a great need to get my feet back on the ground. A Max GaM "I set a lot of stuff aside while I was doing that job -- I put things aside and left them in suspension for eight years." he says.
