Recently he came home and told me about a project his class was doing. The teacher had asked all the children to bring in labels showing various weights, ounces, grams and liters. Well, being an avid refunder for more than three years, my proof-of- purchase files contained just what he needed. I picked out 50 labels with interesting weights and he took them to school. The following day I asked my son if he had enough labels and he replied: "Yes, mom, our bulletin board is filled. Mr. Beck asked me how I got so many good labels and I told him you were a refunder." I've saved the best part for last. After the project was over, my son came home with a surprise for me. He had asked the teacher if he could have all the labels on the bulletin board instead of them being thrown in the trash. I'm now helping my son use the labels to send for refund offers. His class project was a wonderful lesson that we both benefited from - Linda Slater, Penton, Mich. Dear Linda: Getting children involved in couponing and refunding gives them skills that can bring them hundreds and even thousands of dollars. The checks and dollar Hbills they receive in the mail in exchange for box tops and labels give them a feeling of ac complishment and makes them more financially responsible. Dear June: What should you do if you get home from the supermarket and discover that someone has taken a box top or other proof-of-purchase from one of the packages you bought? - Barbara R. Akron, Mich. Dear Barbara: If a portion of a package is missing and it is important to you, then by all means return it to the store, and have it replaced with one that is intact. You might also want to speak to the store manager and alert him to the problem so he can watch for the POP theif who is stealing his box tops. Smart Shopping Award 1 The Smart Shopping Award goes to Janet Rainer of Staten Island, N.Y.: "I puchased two boxes of Cheer detergent which were price at $1.09. I gave the cashier two 75-cent coupons, so 1 paid only 34 cents each. When I got home I found a Cheer free, box offer and mailed in the two net weight statements. My final cost will be 68 cents plus a postage stamp for three boxes of an excellent detergent. Here is a refund form to write for: A $2 rebate. Ekco $2 Rebate, P.O. Box NB-188, El Paso, TX. 79977.
