v » McCullom Lake: EASTER PLANS AND MISS McCULLOM LAKE CONTEST ANNOUNCED Eight ladies were present at the Feb. 1 meeting held at the beach house and plans were made for the April 14 Easter Carnival. The Egg Hunt will start the festivities at 10 a.m. outdoors, weather permitting. The Miss McCullom Lake contest will start at 11:30 a.m. There will be many games, prizes, refreshments and of course, a Cake Walk. The girls also set May 19 for a giant indoor garage sale to take place at the beach house. If interested in renting space or a table please contact Linda Bacon at 385-7415, or Mary Brand, 344-1960. Since refreshments did not make it down to the meeting, the ladies enjoyed candy bars left in their locker and the meeting adjourned at 10:15 p.m. GET WELL WISHES Clemencia Fernandez recently returned home from the Harvard hospital after having surgery. She stated that her stay in the hospital was made much easier by a nurse, < Peggy Burg, whose family still lives here in the village. It was so nice to see a familiar and friendly face. We wish Clemencia a full and speedy recovery. Speedy recovery wishes are also sent to Laurie Gleeson. Laurie was recently hospitalized after an auto accident. We hope you are resting comfortably at home by the time you read this, Laurie. CLERK'S HOURS iThe village clerk's office hours will be extended to three days a week through April. The hours will be Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 2 through 6:30 p.m., and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. through 1 p.m. except Feb. 11, when the office will be closed. Sticker fees are as follows: cars, $10; A,B or RV license plates, $15; C-D license plates, $30; and E and over license plates, $100. If you have a big truck you must also contact road trustee John Morris for a parking permit which is free. Lakeland Park : FURNACE CAUSES HOME FIRE Saturday, Jan. 29, was sup­ posed to be a quiet day off from work for Lin Dentro but it turned out just the opposite. We were talking on the phone discussing that we should brave the snow and head for the grocery store when her house suddenly filled with smoke. As she called the fire department, everyone in the Cominsky house hurried to put on boots and jackets to go lend a hand. Duchess, the dog, was first to leave with Samantha, the hamster, following. Lin made a mad dash to save all her income tax records and the very im­ portant refund forms. Before we knew it, the fire department arrived to handle the situation. The problem was in the furnace filter and in a matter of minutes everything was under control. The earlier damage burned out the furnace motor so in the wee hours of the morning a heating man was called to replace it. Now we need a real nice warm day so she can leave all the windows open to get the rest of that awful smell out of the house. 86TH BIRTHDAY Today, Feb. 8, is Elmer Hagermann's eighty-sixth birth­ day and everyone sends him good wishes. Elmer fell on the ice a few weeks ago and had to spend some time in the hospital. We're happy to hear he's home now to recuperate. ANOTHER FALL Barb Borchardt was put into the hospital last week to mend. She took a fall and injured her already sensitive back. Ethylene Dibromide (EDB) has been found to cause cancer when introduced to laboratory animata. After receiving aata from the states, the U.S. EPA has promised a decision which will include suggested tolerances of EDB and may go as far as to suspend the use of the product. she has a speedy recovery so she can come home soon. TEXAN WRITES It was two years ago that Kevin, Diane and Ryan Holland moved from next door to Corpus Christi, Tx. We just got word that their family size has in­ creased with the birth of a son, Justin David, last May 29. We were part of Ryan's first year and so sorry we can't experience Justin's too. Sure hope they make it here this summer for a reunion. LATE WISHES We hope Lucille Dolan and Wes Kopsell had a nice birthday on Feb. 1. James Taylor turned 10 years old on the 2nd. February 3 was Jackie and Ron Creut's 12th wedding an­ niversary. Bonnie Parisi and Wendy Mueller had their special day February 4. Richard Mercure became a teenager on the 5th and he shared that date with Ken Radcliffe and Karen Doessel. David Danielson and Max Koch were another year older on Feb. 7. BIRTHDAYS Mike Cominsky is celebrating his twentieth birthday today, Feb. 8. Christopher Conway has his eighth birthday Feb. 10, and shares that date with Cheryl Henderson, Diane Bergdorf and Theresa Danielson. Kathleen Johnson will be 18 years old on the 11th. Very best wishes to Elroy Flicek and Matthew Asevedo on Feb. 12. ANNIVERSARY Rich and Marty McGrath will celebrate their sixteenth wedding anniversary Feb. 10. The 1984 vehicle stickers must be purchased and displayed by March 31, or you may receive a ticket, and the cost and fine could amount to $50. Also, if you plan on launching a boat off the shore, it must display a boat sticker. The initial cost is $3 and $1 every year thereafter. Also, eight boat posts are left. If you would like to leave your boat down at the beach, you must rent a boat post for $7 for the season. This can also be done at the clerk's office during hours. RUNNING DOGS Many dogs have been running loose. Ordinance Number 7 states it shall be unlawful to permit any dog to run at large at any time. Dogs should be securely leashed or contained on the owner's property. Any dog impounded will be taken to McHenry County Animal Control and held until owner pays fines and charges. If the dog is not claimed after three days, it shall be /destroyed. CHURCH BAKE SALE PLANNED The Nativity Lutheran Church's "Care Unit" will be sponsoring a bake sale Satur­ day, Feb. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Church. The "Care Unit" is a group working to serve the less fortunate of the Wonder Lake area whether they are members of the Nativity congregation or not. NATIVITY NEWS It is still not too late to join the Monday's Ministries Adult Sunday School class which meets every Sunday at 9 a.m. It involves discussion of how to live your Christianity in a day to world. The congregation offers communion to fifth graders upon completion of a course of instruction. An orientation session regarding this class will be held Sunday, Feb. 26, at 11:30 a.m. following the 10:30 a.m. worship service, which will include a question and answer period with Pastor Olson. A soup and sandwich lunch will be provided. All students fifth grade and older who haven't participated in this class along with their parents, as well as any other interested persons, are encouraged to attend. COLOR PROGRAM Don't go out and buy those new spring clothes until after llie next Woman's Club of Wonder Lake meeting because even though you might like that certain color it just might not be for you. This is the latest craze in color coordination and will be the program for the next Woman's Club meeting, Thursday, Feb. 16. Not only the color of clothes will be discussed but also makeup and hair color.
