Flames were shooting through the windows and roof of Arrow Products Inc., 12007 Mead Ave., while employees fled, an eye witness told Hebron Assistant Fire Chief John Braun. * * But one employee said there was "plenty of time" to exit. The only injury reported was a Weight loss benefit for cancer set McHenry County residents hoping to ! lose those extra holiday pounds are invited to par ticipate in the second annual American Cancer Society Weight-A- Thon. It will begin Saturday, Feb. 25, and continue for four weeks, ending Saturday, March 17. All area residents are encouraged to participate by collecting pledges from friends and relatives for every pound of weight they lose during this period. All par t icipants wil l "weigh in" between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday,. Feb. 25. Sponsor and pledge forms will be given out at that time. All weighing will take place at three locations, including McHenry Nautilus Club, 804 Mill Street. Information sheets a are currently available at this location. Betsy Les, chairman of the county-wide event, hopes to have a combined total of 2,000 pounds lost and a goal of $12,000 earned. Additional indictment for Lee Ira Lee, 31, ac cused of the Aug. 15, 1982 stabbing death of Steven Feldt of Woodstock, was . arraigned Friday on additional charges placed against him last week by a McHenry County grand jury, Lee, of Wood stock, was charged last October by Woodstock police with murder and arson in connection with the death of Feldt, 29, in the victim's Woodstock apartment. Charges in ad dition to the murder and arson charges were returned by ' the grand jury on an amended in dictment. They include charges of home invasion and armed violence. Lee is being held , in the county jail on $1 million bond. Lee pleaded not guilty to the new charges Friday sprained ankle. Cause has not been deter mined, Braun said, but the fire appeared to have started in the center of the plant. The roof had collapsed and the fire was "fully engulfed" on the west side of the building when firemen arrived at the scene at about 1:40 p.m., Braun said. Firemen removed a dozen gas tanks bom the south side of the building near a fireproof "chemical room" which protected drums of flammable liquid such as acetone and paint thinner from exploding, Braun explained. The company manufactures wood stands such as sewing machine cabinets, drafting table and computer stands, according to Toni Mancini, owner of Arrow Products. About 60 fire fighters from six departments -- Hebron, Alden, Harvard, Woodstock, Richmond and Wonder Lake r- brought the blaze under control in about three hours. Personnel were on the scene about nine hours, and crews were called out four times Saturday and Sunday to ex tinguish rekindllngs. The blaze required the use of about 200,000 gallons of water Rraun said. * The factory, set on 3% acres, was gutted but the office area suffered only water dnmna* Mancini estimated damage to the facility, which he bought two years ago and remodeled, at "close to $3 million." County prairies is meeting topic "Prairies Past, Prairies Future" will be the highlighted program presented by Ed Collins at the 37th annual meeting of the McHenry County Soil and Water Conservation District to be held Feb. 16, at the Timbers Restaurant, Woodstock. Collins, a naturalist for Pleasant Valley Outdoor Center, will talk on the settling of prairies in McHenry County and what possibilities they present for agriculture in the future. A three-meat buffet will be served beginning at 8 p.m. After dinner, at 9 p.m., during the business meeting, three directors will be elected to serve two-year terms.
