There are more than 40 million Americans who are proud to be 4-H alumni. Currently, five million youth are 4-H members nationally. They are served by six-hundred- thousand volunteers who are 4-H leaders. Although conceived as a rural program around the turn of the century to disseminate vital agricultural information, 4-H has since evolved into an ex tensive educational program State Rep. Dick Klemm (It- Crystal Lake) has announced that application forms for his 1984-85 General Assembly scholarships are available in his district office at 3 W. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake. The scholarships apply only to state universities in Illinois. To be awarded this year are four, one-year scholarships to the University of Illinois and six, one-year scholarships to any of the other state universitites. In order to qualify for one of. the scholarships, the applicant must be a resident of the 63rd Representative District. In McHenry County the 63rd District includes Nunda Township, McHenry Township (except precincts 5,8,10,12, and 19), most of the City of Crystal Lake, and Grafton Township precincts 5 and 7. In Lake County, all of Wauconda, Fremont and Grant Townships are in the 63rd District. Klemm has again formed an advisory committee consisting of school superintendents, teachers, and lay people from the district who will review all the applications and make recommendations. The injured man, Ronald Hill,'32, 1107 VanBuren, Wauconda, was taken to McHenry Hospital by the McHenry Fire Department. The bartender, James Hager, 40, who resides at the tavern, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and unlawful use of weapons. Witnesses said there had been an earlier argument between the two and Hill was struck as he was leaving. In another matter, Dep. Page, county police, saw a vehicle southbound on Wilmot Road, turn off its headlights and run a stop sign at the Route 173 in tersection. The time was after 10 p.m. Page pursued the vehicle in a chase that exceeded 75 mph and ended when the offender was forced to stop at a roadblock set up by the Spring Grove Police Department. Jay Flicek, 18, 4315 Crest- wood, McHenry, was arrested for fleeing and attempting to elude police and reckless driving. Bond was set at $4,000. Projects and activities are designed to provide experiences to promote growth in the areas mentioned. 4-H has a problem. Money! Sources of money have eroded over the 10 years. 4-H volunteers have moved to solve the situation. A "$4 Million for 4-H" campaign is under way. The four million will be invested and the interest will be used for 4-H leader training and program support. Each county in TWinnto has appointed a committee to raise part of this money locally, ttie initial money will be asked of those participating in the 4-H program. Later, donations will be asked of the corporate community.
