Their wool was donated to the McHenry County Historical Society in Union, where local ladies carded it and spun it into yarn. The hanks of yarn were then washed and dried and wound into balls. Then, Nancy Fike, curator of the museum, brought this beautiful virgin wool to our own talented Louise Hipwell. She was delighted with the beauty of the wool and in several days had knitted two pairs of mittens, to be used in a display at the museum. Louise was the final person to work in the making of these mittens. Her thoughts went back to the days when this whole procedure was done in one household; from raising of the sheep, shearing, carding, spinning, washing and then knitting or weaving into cloth. How many of us would have the knowledge to accomplish all that in addition to raising a family? Whew! RECOVERING Mrs. Marie Hyatt is back home after a stay in McHenry Hospital. She is always anxious to be back home, where she gets specialized care. Julia Kraus is still under the weather. Thoughts of the lovely surprise birthday party that her son and daughter-in-law gave her on New Year's Day when she reached her seventy-fifth year, make her feel loved and warm while she is staying at home. 6 CELEBRATIONS Joan Odarczanko celebrates her birthday Feb. 18, Peggy Glus of Lakemoor, treasurer of Friends of the Library, will be getting happy birthday wishes from her husband and children on the 19th. He had been a very active member of the com munity, and is especially remembered for his scouting leadership and dedication to the VFW Drum and Bugle Corps in McHenry. He was the owner of Seaco Sales and Service in Lilymoor. Sympathy is extened to his family. Feb. 23 - Lakemoor Village meeting 8 p.m. NOT RECOGNIZED When the Pioneer Center celebrated its twenty-fifty an niversary last month, one of the charter members was not given recognition. Mrs. Evelyn Carter of Lilymoor was the first secretary of the organization which is concerned with retarded and exceptional people. Evelyn gave many hours to the formation of this wor thwhile service, and still has all of her records of her years as secretary. Evelyn still lives in her home in Lilymoor with her daughter Janice. One of their pleasures is to visit the McHenry Nunda Library and read the papers and magazines. So often it seems that service rendered is not remembered even though others reap the benefits in later years. The world is a better place because of people like Evelyn Carter, who quietly make the quality of living better for all. SYMPATHY Mrs. Bernice Donarski, mother of Elmira Chamberlain of Lilymoor, died Feb. 5 at Royal Terrace in McHenry. The loss of this mother, grand mother, and great grandmother, is felt by many people. Alyce Kowal of Lakemoor lost the last remaining member of her immediate family with the massing of her brother in Bed ford, IN. Feb. 7. She was unable to go to the funeral, as she was suffering from one of those all- over colds that are plaquing so many now. So all things come to an end, to make a new beginning in enternity.
