SECTION 2 - PAGE 10 - PLAlNDEALER WEDNESDAY^EBRUARY 29. 1984 MeWs X"> Add county u in tractor pull One more class of competition has been added to the McHenry County Fair's popular tractor pulling attraction by the fair board. In addition, the show organized by the tractor pull committee, headed by Everett Hunter, will again feature the four-wheel drive truck pull. The new class to be offered with prize money as an added at traction is the Northern Illinois Antique Tractor Pull. The fair will be Aug. 1-5 at Woodstock. Hunter said the farm tractor pull will be on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 5. The regular antique pull, the Northern Illinois antique competition and the truck pull will be a Saturday afternoon, Aug. 4, feature. Harness racing will be enhanced this year with the presentation of an Illinois Colt Stakes. The fair board has rejected a bid submitted to tear down the goat barn, oldest building on the grounds, because it felt $3,500 was too much to invest in the demolition of the structure. Bill Tammeus, who remembers building it with the aid of Mark Hansen and Bud Tornow, says it will be difficult to demolish because of the green oak posts, long spikes and extraordinary care taken to give the fair a good start when it was revived in iir class contest 1949. The post came from Gov. Louden's farm in the Sinnissippi Forest. For many years tents were rented, but the goat barn was put up as a starter in 1950 for the series of buildings that have followed. The board voted to make a change in the duck classes and increased the entry fee for poultry from 75 cents to a dollar. Tammeus suggested the board consider some new at tractions to increase interest in the fair and broaden the base of attractions to appeal to a more diverse population. He men tioned an antique auto show in the former dining hall and an exhibit in conjunction with the McHenry County Historical Society to present the refur bished tractor and eight-foot combine. The board decided to use the old dining hall for storage and did not act on ideas for enhanced projects. Charles Weingart, fair association president, reported on the Association of Illinois County Fairs annual meeting held in January. He said LyneU Lahner, Miss McHenry County, was a finalist in the Miss Illinois County Fair contest, one of the final 10 among the 56 can didates. "She was an out standing representative," he said. Local actors in comedy Townsquare Players, Inc., will present the hilarious comedy Lovers and Othelf Strangers, at the Woodstock Opera House beginning March 9. the play, written by Renee Taylor and Joseph Bologna, is a series of five vignettes, focusing on the joys, the miseries, and the foibles of falling in and out of love. Each vignette explores the human condition that emerges when a relationship between a man and a woman begins to jell, makes demands, or creates insoluable problems. The budding feminist, the com placent middle-aged couple, the would-be swingers, and the couples wishing they could be married or unmarried to each other, deal with situations with humor and compassion. Taylor and Bologna, who are married in real life have collaborated in movies and theatre for many years, drawing on their own experiences and those of their friends to add realism to their playwriting. The Townsquare production is under the direction of Crystal Lake resident Christopher Connell, most recently seen as Charlie Dalrymple in last fall's Brigadoon. Producer Missy Spengel was Bonnie Jean MacLaren in that production, and is well known in the area for performing and choroegraphing talents. The cast of the show includes: David Page and Bethany Evans; William Coughlin and Denise Siragusa; Daniel Smith and Sharon Meisel; Anthony Casalino and Rae Classen; James Meisel, Patti Cane, Scott Swanson, and Amy Dalton.
