But I didn't have any coupons. To solve my problem, I went to all the second-hand stores in my area, such as the Salvation Army, Good Will and St. Vincent DePaul. Some of these stores give away old magazines, while other sell them for a nickel or dime. I picked out magazines dated 1983 and when I got home I was able to clip out between $6 and $7 worth of coupons from each magazine. This really got me off to a fast start and my second month of couponing and refunding brought me $76 worth of coupon savings and $22 in manfacturers' refunds. My husband and I are having a delightful time trying new products we felt we couldn't afford before. Coupon Clipper Thank you for all the tips and helpful advice. - B.F., Lafayette, Ind. Dear B.F.: The purpose of my column is to help you stretch your supermarket dollars. I always appreciate hearing from readers who confirm that all the clipping, filing and sending does pay off. Thanks for the letter and keep up the good work. Dear June: I'm very con scious of where my money goes. One of the things I don't like to spend money on is envelopes, the kind I use to send for refund offers. I recently found the answer right where I work and it's all very proper. We get paid twice a month, and each em ployee receives a paycheck in a lof|g, white envelope. I no longef fiave to buy iAy en- j T J£ \ velopes, because I get them from my co-workers. There are 130 employees and I get more than 100 free envelopes each month. - Penny, Dover, Del. Dear Penny: Thanks for the letter. It really shows why refunders have a reputation for resourcefulness. SMART SHOPPING AWARD My Smart Shopping Award goes to a refunder whose savings are no nonsense, Ann Own of Morral, Ohio: "Last summer, No Nonsense offered $10 worth of coupons for 10 package fronts. As an office worker, it wasn't hard for me to accumulate the required proofs. Recently, a local department store had six pairs of No- Nonsense on sale for $5.50. I used six of my $1 coupons to get six pairs free! On the same display, I found a refund form advertising a free pair in return for three package fronts. I sent for one free pair for myself and one for my mother. That makes a total of eight free pairs of what I consider to be a fine quality product." Readers whose smart shop ping experiences appear in my column receive a copy of the couponing and refunding magazine "The Supermarket Shopper." Write to me in care of this paper. Here's a refund form to write for: No Nonsense "Buy 3 - Get 1 Free" Offer, P.O. Box NN-1, Burlington, NC 27220. Requests for this form must be received by March 30, 1984.
