Link-up pass OK'd by RTA board The new Link-Up pass, the first significant integration of commuter rail and bus fares in the 10-year history of the Regional Transportation Authority, has received final approval from the RTA Tran sition Board of Directors. The new monthly pass, good for a ride oii a feeder bus at both ends of a commuter rail trip, is on sale this week at five com muter train stations in down town Chicago and 43 in the suburbs. McHenry station is served by 806, 807 and 809 buses. Passes can be purchased at the Cystal Lake station. At a cost of $25, the LinfcUp pass is $15 cheaper than the RTA's regular monthly pass,-- which had previously beeh the least expensive way to /obtain the same bus services. That represents a savings oI $180 a year - on top of the $49 to $228 a year that rail commuters saved when the Transition Board reduced commuter train fares 10 percent, effective last February 1. "Some commuters can save more than $400 a year, thanks to these two actions by the board," said RTA Chairman John D. Kramer. "The lower prices and added convenience should please our regular riders and lure back some of those who left the system over the last several years." The Link-Up pass will be honored between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. and between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday on RTA and Chicago Transit Authority bus routes serving 182 commuter rail stations in the suburbs and Chicago neigh borhoods and no designated CTA mmtmm bus lines in the Central Business District. Link-Up passes will go on sale near the end of each month at the same time as monthly commuter rail tickets. To purchase a Link-Up pass, a commuter must show the agent his monthly commuter rail pass or put chase both passes in the same transaction. Both passes ptust be shown when boarding a feeder bus. Kramer ntoed that the Link up pass will be useful to Chicagoans as well as subur banites. "Mang people board com mitter trains at stations in Chicago neighborhoods, par ticularly on the Northwest and Southwest sides,," he said. "The Link-Up pass will be honored on 70 CTA bus routes that serve commuter train stations in Chicago and the close-in suburbs." The chairman also pointed out that the Link-Up pass will mean added convenience for those who use a feeder bus only at the downtown end of their daily commute. "If they regularly take a 60- cent CTA shuttle bus between the downtown train station and their offices, the Link-Up pass is a good deal," he said. "It spares them the bother of constantly having to fish for exact change, and it costs lightly less than 21 round trips on the shuttle bus, which is about how many a commuter takes in an average month." To find out how Link-Up can serve their personal commuting needs, riders should call the RTA's Travel Information Center at 836-7000, or toll-free from the suburbs, 1-800-972-7000. ill!! •m RSI MAKE YOUR MAMS NOW... for EASTER BRUNCH OR WHHERI JOIN US FOR DINNER. • • •FRIDAY FISH FRY 3PM TO 10PM •SATURDAY NIGHT DINNER | 5PM TO 10PM •SUNDAY BRUNCH 10 AM TO 2PM SUNDAY DINNER 3PM TO 8PM CHAPEL HILL p ^COUNTRY CLUB 25MN.CHSPELH1L1.RD. 815-385-0333 i 'DIKING AT THE _ LOiVGHOKJV ^SOMETHING EVERY TUESDAY IS MEXICAN NIGHT $375 • MOUTH-WATERING SOUTH-OF-THE- BORDER ENTREES...
