Northern Illinois boasts more than its share of lamb and wool queens. Five of them gathered recently at the recent annual banquet of the McHenry-Lake Lamb and Wool Producers' Association. These young ladies raise their own sheep and serve as a vital part of the sheep in­ dustry in the promotion of lamb and wool. Representing the Dorset breed as the Illinois Dorset Queen is Bobette Schoenbeck of Richmond. Bobette is the 16- year-old daughter of Robert Schoenbeck. She has been active in the 4-H sheep project for nine years. Karen Kantlehner, also of Richmond, has worn three lamb and wool queen crowns. Karen first reigned as the 1982 McHenry-Lake Lamb and Wool Queen and moved on to capture Lamb and wool queens above, from left, are Bobette Schoenbeck, Richmond; Karen Kan­ tlehner, Richmond; Penny Hartel, DeKalb; Linda Ainger, Hebron and Kim Richards, Zion. the state title in 1983. She now wears the state crown for her sheep breed as the Illinois Suffolk Queen. Penny Hartel of DeKalb serves as the 1984 Illinois Lamb and Wool Queen after holding the DeKalb County title for one year. „ Linda Ainger, of Hebron, represented the industry as the 1983 county queen and at the annual meeting crowned Kim Richards of Zion as the 1984 McHenry-Lake Lamb and Wool Queen. These queens are constantly promoting the use of lamb and wool as well as the specific breed of sheep they represent. Sgt. Breede was selected by a board of senior non­ commissioned officers based on his knowledge of solider skills, military customs and world affairs. Sgt. Breede was awarded the Army Achievement Medal for his accomplishment. The McHenry serviceman was promoted to his present rank Oct. 31, 1983, by his wife, Deborah, and his commander. The promotion ceremony was held in Kaiserslautern, Ger­ many. Sgt. Breede is the senior in­ vestigator of the Pirmasens Field Office, Detachment D, 42nd MP Group (Customs) in Pirmasens, Germany, where he lives with his wife and sons, Jason and Ryan.
