FOR ABOUT Late winter delays state tree shipment The Department of Con servation's two tree nurseries are suffering from the late surge of winter weather which is delaying the shipment of tree seedlings to be used in con servation plantings throughout the state. "We were already behind schedule because unfavorable conditions last fall slowed our early lifting and cold storage of seedlings over the winter," said A1 Mickelson, chief of the Department's Division of Forest Resources and Natural Heritage. Conditions during the winter months also prevented work from proceeding, and many people who ordered seedlings may receive them later than expected. "We're not ready to throw in the towel yet," said Mickelson. "We have nearly double our usual work force standing by to begin the mass lifting of trees as soon as ground conditions are right, and every effort will be made to get our seedlings out to people for planting this spring.
