Ms. Timmons was elected and installed as national president at the Seventieth Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary National Convention in New Orleans in August, 1983. During her year as the national president she wiH visit every state in the United States, and view the United States' current. military situation in Korea, Panama, Japan, Manilla and Guam. "We Care, America" is her theme and she has pledged to preserve the greatness of American patriotism; dedicated service to veterans and their families; to the youth and handicapped. - Under her direction, auxiliary members across the nation work with the VFW Political Action Committee to protect the rights Seniors...out to lunch Reservations for meals at the McHenry Walk-In Center for the week of April 9 through April 13 must be made by calling 385-8260 by Tuesday, April 3. The menu for that week is as follows: Apr. 9: Baked meatloaf, brown gravy, au gratin potatoes, mixed vegetables, carrot pineapple salad, dinner roll, margarine, chilled peaches, milk. Apr. 10: Barbecued chicken, parsleyed potatoes, kernel corn, tossed salad, 1,000 island dressing, white bread, of veterans and their families through legislation; raise over two million dollars to provide cfpcer aid to members and sponsor cancer research; support the VFW National Home to provide ' housing and education for children of deceased and disabled veterans and auxiliary members; award scholarships for patriotic art and speech contests; and volunteer thousands of hours each year in the Veteran Ad­ ministration medical centers. A luncheon will be held in honor of Ms. Timmons' visit Saturday, March 31, at the Ramada O'Hare Inn, Rosemont. Anne Scarbrough, President of the Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600, Gerry Kuck, Mary Fergen and Ha Hogan plan to attend the luncheon. Slate beekeeper The next meeting of the McHenry Woman's Club will be held Thursday, April 12, at noon, in Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. At that time, election of officers will take place. Tlie program and discussion will be presented at 2 p.m. by a McHenry beekeeper, Bruce Mohnen. He will speak on the effect of the honey bee on the environment. Mohnen teaches a course in Beginning Beekeeping at McHenry County College; and a summer workshop with hands on management at the college apiary. He is a past president of Northern Illinois Beekeepers Association; Superintendent of the Honey Show at the McHenry County Fair; a member of Cook- D u P a g e B e e k e e p e r s Association; and the American Beekeepers Federation. The Wonder Lake Senior Citizens Club opened its meeting Monday, March 19, by pledging allegiance to the flag; and President Lucille Schrader called for nominations of of­ ficers from the floor. The following were elected for 1984-85: Ann Wilcox, president; Margaret Dana, vice-president; Lydia Germain, secretary; and Grace Smith, treasurer. The new officers will be installed at the April 2 meeting. Ann Wilcox announced there will be a luncheon held at Christ the King Hall June 4. A suggestion was made for the good of the club to hold one meeting a month to encourage building up the membership. It was put to a vote but the Set lunch-cards Pistakee Highlands Woman's Club will sponsor its annual Spring Luncheon and Card Party Wednesday, April 4, at noon, in the Pistakee Highlands Community Center. Along with a delicious salad buffet, there will be many prizes offered. On April 25, at 7:30 p.m., the woman's club will hold a fashion show featuring new Spring fashions. There will be a special gift certificate awarded, along with many other prizes; and refreshments will be served. For tickets, call 497-3233. members chose to continue with two meetings. President Lucille Schrader passed out colorful bunny- baskets, each containing a colored egg. She had crocheted them to give to the various members who she said were "good eggs" for helping her. Absent members of the club are urged to come to the meetings and enjoy an afternoon of fellowship; and all senior citizens of the area are welcome. Blood pressures are taken prior to the second meeting of the month, from 11:30 a.m. to noon. This is a service to all senior citizens of Wonder Lake. One does not have to be a member of the club to take advantage of this program, but everyone is invited to stay for an afternoon of getting acquainted. Church women sponsor sale The Spring Rummage Sale which is sponsored annually by the Zion Ladies Aid, will be held April 12 and 13 in the Social Hall of Zion Lutheran Church, which is located at 4206 W. Elm St. (Route 120) in McHenry. The hours of the sale will be Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 7 pin.- and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come and browse. MR. AND MRS. The former Suzy LaFarlette and David Alton were united in Holy Matrimony March 10. The 3:30 p.m. ceremony was of­ ficiated by Pastor Roger Schneider in Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, McHenry. The bride is the daughter of Dennis and Marilyn LaFarlette, 2906 Sterling, McHenry. Howard and Yvonne Alton, also of McHenry, are the parents of the bridegroom. DAVID ALTON Following the ceremony, a reception for 110 friends and relatives was held at Hunter Country Club. Upon their return from a one- week honeymoon in the romantic setting of Hawaii, the newlyweds took up residence in McHenry. The new Mrs. Alton is em­ ployed by Marengo Federal and her husband works for Lenco Electronics. Annual prayer breakfast set Apr. 4 On Wednesday, April 4, the Whispering Oaks Woman's Club will hold its annual prayer breakfast at the Whispering Oaks Community Center. Roberta Wildes, who initiated this program eight years ago, is serving as chairman and has chosen the theme, "It Is Writ­ ten." A continental breakfast will be served at 9:30 a,m. by Marge Conklin and her committee. Following, there will be special musical numbers by Jan Cluff and Sharon Bernhardt, and the assembly will join in hymn singing, accompanied by Mildred Albrecht at the piano. There will be a brief message by John Albrecht and scripture readings will be given by Edith Knudsen and Edna Pearson. The speaker will be the Reverend Arthur Knudsen, who is well-known in the area, having moved to Whispering Oaks when he retired nine years ago as pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Atonement in Barrington, IL. It will be a very interesting and meaningful service. There will be no charge for this prayer breakfast but, as has been the custom in past years, gifts for FISH will be greatly appreciated.
