V PACE 4- PLAINPEALER WEDNESDAY, APRIL 4, 1984 general y I W I h i News Writing aptitude test comes after 49 years Crime of the week TWs week Crime Stoppers is seeking information on a hit and run accident that occurred on Route 14 in Cary, near Silver Lake Road. On Saturday, March 17, about 4 p.m., an orange Chevrolet 459-4800 Nova collided with the rear of a blue Datsun, pushing the Datsun into a blue AMC Eagle The driver of the Nova, described as a male white in his 20's, with blonde hair and a beard, then drove from the scene, northbound on Route 14 toward Crystal Lake. The Nova had sustained front end damage in the accident, and although several people saw the car, it had no license plates on it to aid police in locating the driver. Extensive damage was done to the other two cars, and the driver of the AMC Eagle was injured in the accident. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards of up to $1,000 for in formation leading to the arrest and filing of criminal charges against offenders. V Crime Stoppers, which is sponsored by the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce, assigns secret numbers to anonymous callers who provide in formation. If there are arrests, the Crime Stdppers board of directors then meets to determine an ap propriate reward. Elm St. (Rt 120), McHenry 385 1833 McMENRY After struggling along for nigh onto 49 years, somebody offers me a writing aptitude test. It came in the mail. Now they reach me when I am near the end of the line. I'M FINE There's nothing whatever the matter with me I'm just as nealtttf as I can be I have arthritis in both my knees. And when I talk, I talk with a wheeze My pulse is weak and my blood is thin But I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in. I think my liver is out of whack And a terrible pain is in my back My hearing is poor, my sight is dim But I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in. I have arch supports for both my feet or I wouldn't be able to go on the street Sleeplessness I have night after night And in the morning I'm just a sight My memory's failing, my head's in a spin I'm peacefully living on aspirin But I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in. The moral is, as this tale we unfold That for me and you, who art growing old It's better to say "I'm fine*' with a grin than to let them know the shape we're in. Thought you would get a buzz out of this. We sure enjoy it when you write about the history of McHenry. We moved out here in 1971 so you see there is a lot for us to learn about McHenry. Always enjoy your column. Keep up the good work. Sincerely, Mrs. Kenneth Bowsher P.S. So what if you finally made it up the hill to the outhouse and found that the neighbor kid had nailed the door shut. ...KEEP SMILING! Dedar Mrs. Bowsher, You certainly gave me a buzz out of your contribution. I have heard of Over The Hill To The Poorhouse, but never Up The Hill To The Outhouse. Can't say much for my shape, but "I'm Fine". Keep reading and writing. S.I.H. A1 Baur came to see us, bringing a beautiful picture taken by his son, Tom, at Cape Canaveral. The picture had to be taken a long distance away with equipment that is mighty ex pensive. Tom must be a real artist with a camera. A1 thinks I am wrong about Math Thelen having a harness shop in the building where Roger Freund now operates the tire shop which was run by his father, Walt, for many years. A! thinks his father had a restaurant in that building. Maybe that was before the harness shop. Help! Can anybody remember? As I sat waiting and watching as Alvina and our grand daughter Aleen shopped, it struck me that it is rare for two people to have the same walk. Some walk with class. Some of us just plod along. Joe said I have to wear it next summer when Barb and I wheel around the course on Club Championship Day. Sounds great, all that building, but watch the price of fruit go up for us poor Nor- therners. Hadn't seen Ed Datz once in a blue moon, then met him three times within a 10-day period. A card from the Bryan Klontz family, now residing in Colorado, tells us their children, Jason, Kale and Lisa are growing up fast. The boys are finishing their basketball season. Grandpa Bill says the boys are winners. Their little sister Lisa will be next. Jason remembers when his mother brought him to our house with a green cake on that Great Saint's Day. His mother, Sharon, is a former employee of mine--one of "Earl's Girls". It makes us happy to have friends come through the door of our home. Marie Oeffling brought a sack full of old Plaindealers from way back. I'll have fun with those old issues. It was a happy crowd that gathered to celebrate Kate Weber's 80th birthday on Sun day. Every girl should look so sharp on her 80th! A few quotes from Bacon's scrapbook - Our world leaders should quit worrying about left and right and think more about above and below! The best friends are those whose hearts are softer than their heads. The trouble with opportunity is that it only knocks. Temp tation kicks the door down.
