Much interest was centered around the fight for nomination for seats in the Illinois General Assembly from1 the Eighth Senatorial District, both on the Details of a comprehensive plan for reform in nursing home care facilities will be examined by the Illinois Council on Aging during a meeting in Springfield Thursday, April 12, according to Chairman Willard C. Rasmussen of Park Ridge. Scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Springfield Hilton Hotel at 7th and Adams Streets, the meeting is open to the public. "Announced by Governor Thompson in his budget message to the General Assembly last month, the Nursing Home Advocacy program will be spearheaded by the Illinois Department on Aging, Department of Public Health and other allied agen cies," said Rasmussen. The McHenry Community High School band was rated excellent, or in other words ranked second, in the annual North Central Distirct contest held at the Joliet Township High School. They were surpassed only by the Bensenville High School band, which received a superior rating in the Class C in which the McHenry band was placed. At the last meeting of the City Council he resigned his position, thus ending a long and useful career of public service to two generations of McHenry residents. After his first ap pointment in 1894, he continued in city employ for many years, serving as chief of police and as superintendent of waterworks. Thomas A. Bolger was reelected to the General Assembly on the Democratic ticket. He carried McHenry )VJNOTWP FROM County by a vote of 1,53 to 318 and Boone County by a total of 269 to 50. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 19, 1959). In one of the biggest votes ever recorded in a McHenry Township election, LeRoy Smith emerged winner in a spirited race for supervisor over Michael Schaefer. Smith, who has held the post of assistant supervisor for the past eight years, polled a total of 1,962 votes in the nine McHenry precincts and Schaefer received 1,406. Carried along to victory with Smith were two members of the People's Party, Albert Adams of Johnsburg and Walter Dean of Wonder Lake, who became the new assistant supervisors. "Showboat Serenade", a musical variety show in two acts, written and produced by Father Harold Nilges, will be presented at St. Mary's auditorium in McHenry. A chorus of 60 voices will sing such favorites as "Kentucky Babe", "Stephen Foster Fantasy", "Dry Bones", and "Old Man River", and many others. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 12, 1974). Road Commissioner Clarence Regner presented his 1974 road reconstruction program at the annual McHenry township meeting. Estimated cost of repairs and reconstruction which would come from-the Permanent Hard Road fund was $151,694. Road improvements are scheduled for Howe Road from Wonder Woods in the township line; resurface River Road, Lake, Charles Street and .Lincoln Road eastward to 500 feet west of Hilltop School; Wilmot Road from Broadway to Miller, Wonder Lake Road to Wonder Center; Sunnyside Estates-Mayfair from Wilmot Road to Oakleaf and rebuild Pitzen Road.
