During the past year, NBC has televised such international events as last week's World Cham pionship of Tiack and Field, the World Cross Coun try Championship, the World Cycling Championship and the World Cup Bobsledding Championship. Starting in 1985, NBC will have exclusive rights to the World Bobsledding Championship and the fol lowing year it will televise the championship game of soccer's World Cup. e The network recently signed a long-term agree ment with the US Gymnastics Federation for exclusive rights to the men's and women's all- around individual competition in the U.S. Gymnas tics Championships, which should be a showcase for the world's top performers. This year the championships will be held in Chica go, and for all gymnasts with designs on represent ing this country in the Olympic Games in Los Ange les this summer, this is the last major competitive test prior to the selection of the nation's team at the Olympic Trials. , Although plans aren't set, it is expected that the gymnastic championships will be shown on tape during a telecast of NBC's "SportsWorld" prior to the 1984 Olympics. The network, according to Sean McManus, an NBC Sports vice president, feels that its long-term agreement with the USGF not only enables NBC to feature the nation's top gymnastic stars of tho pres ent and future, but shows the network's commit ment to pursue and acquire quality international events.
