Gary Vycital is named squadron commander McHenry couple hosts study team The Crystal Lake Rotary Club is preparing to host six gen­ tlemen from the Netherlands as a part of Rotary International Foundations Group Study Ex­ change program during the week of April 8 to 15. The ex­ change team will be staying with Crystal Lake Rotarian families and includes Mr. and Mrs. Jim Longhway of McHenry. A joint sector meeting of Rotary clubs from Antioch, Barrington, Cary Grove, Crystal Lake. Fox Lake, Lake Zurich, McHenry, Richmond and Woodstock will be held at the John Evans Inn Wednesday, April 11, with a social hour at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and a program. IH GRANT A $165,000 U.S. Department of Labor grant has been awarded to International Harvester and the United Auto Workers to help as many as 600 workers who lost their jobs when the IH Canton plant closed last fall. At an impressive change of command of the 772nd Tactical Airlift Squadron, Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, Lt. Col. Gary C. Vycital was installed as commander. He replaces Lt. Col. Carl L. McPherson. The new Commander is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Vycital of McHenry. Lt. Col. Vycital was born March 17, 1945. He graduated from the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn, in 1967, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and from the School of Engineering Systems, Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT-SES) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Ohio, with a Master of Science degree in Systems Analysis. Lt. Col. Vycital was an ROTC distinguished graduate and was commissioned at Gunter Air Force Base, Ala. in June 1967. Upon graduation from AFIT- SES, he was assigned to the office of the Assistant Chief of Staff, Studies and Analysis, Headquarters Air Force (AF- SA). Reassigned to Williams Air Force Base. Ariz, he graduated from pilot training in February. 1972. His first rated assignment was to C-130E with the 36th Tactical Airlift Squadron at Langley Air Force Base, Va. as a co-piolt from March, 1972. to February, 1974. Lt. Col. In July of that year he was again assigned to AF-SA, where he served as an analyist in the Mobility Division. He was cheif analyst on studies that evaluated the impact of Army equipment modernization programs on the Air Force's future airflight capability. He also assisted the Joint Chiefs of Staff Crisis Action Team in writing the after-action report for the Iranian hostage rescue attempt. In June, 1980, Lt. Col. Vycital entered the Army Command and General Staff College > graduated as a distinguished graduate on June 5, 1981, and arrived at Dyess Air Force Base. Texas, June 15, 1981. He was assigned to the 774th Tactical Airlift Squadron as an aircraft commander and sub­ sequently as assistant operations officer. In May 1983, he was selected to be Chief of the 463rd Tactical Airlift Wing Combat Plans and Exercises Branch and executive agent of the 463rd Tactical Airlift Wing Crisis Action Team. He became the operations of­ ficer of the 772nd Tactical Airlift Squadron Nov. 15, 1983. Lt. Col. Vycital has flown more than 2,700 hours in the C- 130 Hercules. He has been awarded the Meritorious Ser­ vice Medal. He is married to the former Susan "Mike" Imber from Dayton, Ohio. They have three children, Samantha, Amy and Scott. Bike Safety week opens April 15 The week of April 15 is National Bike Safety Week. The National Safety Council suggests that parents make sure bikes are in good operating condition before children begin to ride them. The growth of children during the winter may have offset adjustments made oft the bike last year. The seat should be adjusted so that a rider's knee is slightly bent when he or she fcits on the saddle. The handlebareshould be in a position so thaflhe rider can reach them comfortably.
