Douglass, oldest 'son of Del and Karen Douglass of Iilymoor, became an Eagle Scotit, the highest honor awarded in Boy Scouts, Sunday April 8, at the Johnsburg Community Club. It was an exciting time for Mike, his family and friends, marking the culmination of seven years of scouting activities. Margaret Karas 385-4934 Mike's public service project was sponsored by the McHenry Nunda Public Library District, and consisted of helping execute the move of the library form 803 W. Columbus Drive to the new facility at 813 W. Route 120. Mike used the attributes of scouting by displaying leadership as he worked with his fellow scouts, dependability, strength, good attitude, willingness, in helping to complete the big undertaking of moving three tons of books and equipment in four and a half days. Present at the large gathering were Mike's grandparents from the Dells, Wl., aunts, uncles, cousins, members of Fire Station No. 3, and represen tatives from service organizations who presented Michael with additional awards. Prayers were offered by Mike's great uncle, the Reverend Gene Douglass. Eagle Scout Brian Deeke gave the Eagle Charge and closed the ceremony with his playing of "taps." A delicious buffet was served afterwards, with innumerable cupcakes devoured by guests and Boy Scout Troop 452. Congratulations, Michael, and may many more awards be given to you in your lifetime. GOD BLESS RECOGNITION For three days the McHenry Nunda Library east of McHenry was a busy place, as youngsters from first through fifth grades from Hilltop School were bussed by classes for a visit to the new facility. All who had parental permission were given a per sonal library card. Among those youngsters who already had their cards and have been users of the library were Leslie Miles, Billie Jean VanCleave, Charlie Schmidt, Jr., April Baker, Becky Huffman, Missy Mum ma, Valerie Keller, and Steve and Brian Miller. On hand were two new friends of the library, puppets Clownie and Dragon, under the control of Lorry Deeke, Vickie Delp and Dottie Mentzer, who explained and then violated library rules, to the dismay of librarian Margaret Karas. Most of the youngsters were familiar with library use, and managed to find a book of their liking to check out. Helping with the project were Mary Lou Stangl and little Heather Mentzer. The teachers accompanied their classes, and all went smoothly as planned by Hilltop Principal John Nellis. The youngsters were very receptive and courteous. As the Superman stickers and book marks had not arrived in time, they will be given out to the children at a later date. After all, there must be some remembrance of the Superman National Library Week theme "Knowledge is REAL Power" other than the fun of a short field trip to the new library building. ROADSIDES The Nunda Township section of Lily Lake Road has been well cleared of winter debris and garbage. Nunda Township workers must have picked up truck loads of the remnants of the great American ethnic quality of throwing stuff on the roadsides. Now, if everyone would just find a garbage can to dispose of cans and papers, wouldn't all the roadsides look great? COLLISION When your car is parked in your own driveway, one does not worry about it being hit. At least, that was Dottie Mentzer's belief until Thursday April 5. Neighbor Phyllis Croswell, with her little charges, had just walked past Dottie's driveway, when the raucous noise of a dirt bike was heard- and then the sound of impact. The 29-year-old driver of the borrowed bike lost control as he was racing and hit Dottie's gold Colt. The car was pushed at an angle by the force of the impact, and the driver was knocked unconcious and bleeding. The Rescue Squad and Sheriff's deputy responded quickly to Dottie's calls. Had Phyllis or Dottie or the children been any closer to the driveway, they might have been victims. We give thanks that Someone watches over us, even when others by their willful ignorance cause destruction and pain. GOD BLESS. Show Part II of 'Chemical People' Part II of "Chemical People" will be shown at Zion Lutheran Church Sunday evening, April 15, at 6:30 p.m. This is an up dated, valuable film on the world of alcohol and drug abuse. Those who missed Part I are welcome to attend Part H as it will still be very informative. Zion Lutheran Church is located at 4206 W. Elm Street. The public is welcome.
