Brian Wright hoping fast track start continues By winning the mile and finishing second in the two mile in last Saturday's Viking- Panther Relays, Brian Wright is getting off to the kind of start his coach and he are looking for. Both are hoping the good start will continue through the season. Last spring, Wright captured the mile at the Kaneland In vitational and it seemed he was on his way to an outstanding season. But an infection slowed him down, and he had to settle for an average season. "He's been on the varsity for four years, and I look for our senior distance kids to be our leaders. It's nice to see him get off to that kind of start," coach Dan Boland said. "Last year he won the the Kaneland two mile. Right after that he got the in fection. He never seemed to recover from that. "I hope he stays healthy and has a good year." Wright is also hoping to continue the good year. "I was kinda disappointed. I haven't really accomplished my goals yet. I feel like time is running out," said the senior. Wright won the 1,600 meter run last Saturday in 4:45, while finishing the 3,200 meter run in 10:16. "Ttiat was an excellent double for him," Boland added. Right now, Wright is hoping to have a good track season and Brian Wright ATHLETE of the week look forward to college. He is looking to some of the schools in Illinois, such as Eastern Illinois and Elmhurst. He has had a scholarship offer from Oklahoma University. Boland is confident in Wright's ability. "If success is based on hard work, Brian will certainly have a good year." wo tf>25i30 Btieh Bras. Plb§. & Ht§.
