V • & T Illinois Bell gives advice for moving to new location Hlinois Bell reminds residence c'ustotners involved in the "spring move rfeason" that/ to the company's dh from AT&T, there are some changes in the way they obtain new service. / Customers who have known Illinois Bell as their sole provider of telephone service now may have to deal with up to three different companies. r Illinois Bell will continue to provide local service, another company vtill provide long distance service and a third company will provide telephones for those customers who continue leasing.their sets or who choose to purchase them. ; Illinois Bell still is the first stop customers should make when ordering new service. The local service the company provides includes: ; -Assignment of a telephone number. . { ' -A telephone line from the nearest switching office to the customer's home. ' -The dial tone, which links telephones to the local, national' and international networks. I -Repair service for telephone lines-the lines that go from the nearest switching office to the point where the lines enter a customer's home. -Touch-Tone palling service. -Options such as Custom Calling Services (Call Waiting, Call Forwarding^ Speed Calling, Three-Way Calling) . -A listing in both White and Yellow Page directories. -Local telephone directories- -both White and Yellow Pages. If the new location needs new inside wiring, customers may install it themselves, hire someone else to do it or have Illinois Bell do the work. Illinois Bell will maintain a customer's inside wiring-the wiring from the point where the telephone lines enter the house up to and including the telephone jacks-if the customer pays a monthly 39-cent charge for the Inside Wire Maintenance Plan. If a customer chooses not to pay the monthly fee, the company will charge for wiring repair service. Market Service Area-or MSA-is the term used in Illinois for the boundaries defining the areas a local telephone company serves. Illinois Bell no longer can handle calls that go from one MSA to another MSA, even if the call originates and ends in Illinois. Many of these companies may be listed in a customer's local classified directory under the heading "telephone com panies." 1 After informing customers about their options for long distance service, Illinois Bell service representatives will ask customers if they own their telephone sets. Illinois Bell no longer sells or leases telephones. Customers' who own their own telephones will be asked for the registration and ringer equivalency numbers listed on the bottom of the phones. This is an FCC requirement. Customers also have the option of leasing their telephones from AT&T In formation Systems. When divestiture became effective January 1, all the telephone sets customers leased from Illinois Bell transferred to AT&T In formation Systems, a separate company. Customers who lease their telephones from AT&T will see charges listed separately on their Illinois Bell telephone bills. The event will be sponsored in conjunction with the American Heart Association's McHenry County Unit. i Hie Bike-A-Thon will start at the Moose athletic field where registration will begin at noon, and the event will begin a 1 p.m. The course is 8 miles and will be monitored for safety by the Kiwanis Members and the Harvard Rescue Squad, which will have first aid stations set up. The proceeds will be used by the Kiwanis Club for youth work in the City of Harvard, The Heart Association uses its proceeds for heart research and education.
