, V* DEATHS Dorothy E. Weber PAGETj^LAiNU^A^ Thomas M. Phalin Thomas M. Phalin, 84, of McHenry, died Wednesday May 2,1984 at his home. He was born Aug. 25,1899 on his father's farm two miles south of McHenry, the son of gJohn and Julia Anna (Powers) Phalin. . Mr. Phalin was a descendant of the pioneer Irish families of the area. His paternal grand parents were from Kilkenny County, Ireland. His grand father, Thomas Phalin, arrived in 1855 and his grandmother, Ellen Frisby, in 1849. They married and farmed on Irish Prairie. His maternal grand parents were Thomas Powers, also of Kilkenny County,, a civil war veteran, and his wif^ Mary - Foley, who settled in Irish Prairie in 1865. , On Feb. 1, 1922 .Mr. Phalin married Ellen Sfpencer of McHenry,, who survives. They were both graduated in a class of 15 from MpHenry High School, now called Landmark, in 1918. After farming south * of McHenry until 1929, he worked for his father-in-law, William Spencer, at the McHenry Flour Mills until it closed. An Army veteran of World War I, he was a member of McHenry Barracks No. 1315 and American Legion Post 491. He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. >. He is survived by five children: Mrs.v James (Patricia) MCDaniel of Wonder Lake,^ Bill (Mary) of Fresno, Calif., JackJ7( Marilyn) of McHenry, Larry (Patricia) of Cary, and Donald (Arlene) of Crystal Lake. Also, 16 grand children and 111 great grandchildren. Other survivors include three brothers: George, of McHenry, Howard, of Wilmette, and Harold, of Waukegan; three sisters: Mrs. Robert (Edna) Knox, Mrs. James (Maijorie) Mahoney,of McHenry, and Mrs. Harry (Ruth) Anderson,' of Scottsdale, Ariz. He was proceeded in death by a sister, Mrs. Albert (Eleanor) Foley, a granddaughter,Sandra Phalin and two great-grandsons, Brian Phalin and John Alan Bowles. Visitation will be at the Peter M. Justen & Son Funeral Home from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday with Wake Services at 7:45 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be said Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Church. She was born on English Prairie in the McHenry area Feb. 8, 1900 to Edmund and Johanna Welch Knox. , A lifetime resident" of McHenry, she was a member of St. Patrick's -Catholic Church and an honorary member of the St. Patrick's Ladies Guild. For many years, she played the organ at the church, at the local funeral homes and at the McHenry Roller Rink. She was also a charter member - of the Catholic Daughters of America and the McHenry Choral Club. Mrs. Weber was married in St. Patrick's church Aug. 28,1934 to Carl N. Weber who survives.* Dennis D. Latimer Dennis D. Latimer, 68, of 5408 W. Westshore Drive, McHenry, died suddenly Tuesday evening, May 1, 1984, in McHenry Hospital Emergency Room. He was born in Missouri Nov. 28,1915 to Gordon and Evelyn Welch Latimer. • j . He was married on Aug.7,1948 in Wheaton to Grace Duffy who survives. Mr. Latimer was a McHenry | resident for the past 27 years, and a laborer and member of Local 1035 of the Fox Valley Laborer's Union for 34 years; a World War n veteran of the Army Air Corps and a member of American Legion Post 491.
