SECTION 2 - PAGE 9 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, MAY .11, 1984 Improvements for county fair okayed Improvements in the fair grounds, expanded parking area and a better way of handling parking were among 1984 McHenry County Fair developments during the April monthly board meeting. The board approved a con tract to tear down and remove the goat barn, one of the first buildings erected following the fair's revival in 1949. Repairs would be costly. In addition, the building occupies a site more suitable for commercial and education exhibits since it is on the Midway adjacent to Massey Hall. The board will add three acres to the east parking lot and will develop a method to route traffic directly to marked lots before admission tickets are collected. Admission will be at walk-up gates. This should alleviate traffic jams on the Country Club Road and make parking more orderly. Brian Sager said a junior fun rodeo will be presented by 4- Hers from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, final day of the fair. Bill Beese, vice president, explained an intracom phone system, and the board approved the pruchase of phones to ex pand the system. Phones will be at the office, horse barn, both entrance gates, emergency services and the horse corral. Ray Fosse said the Grange will staff the gates again this year, these members have volunteered this service each year since 1949. A trophy in honor of Janice Olbrich, one of the committee members of the Antique show, will be presented to a winner in the Antique show this year. Additional electrical power is being planned for the grand stand area. This will provide more stage lighting, more outlets for the entertainers' equipment, and added power for cable television. "You work hard all your life making plans about what you are going to do when you reture. Then, when retirement comes, you don't have enough money. You're treated like a child. There's always the worry about being put into a nursing home, because you get old and need help. I don't want anybody to help me!'* The other side of this story might sound like, "My parents always complain. Nothing I do is right or enohgh. I am at my wits end. Our kids are just leaving home. They often need help. I can only do so much. How can I help my kids and my aging parents at the same time?" Is there a solution to this doubled-edged problem? Experts in family relations believe there is. Families can be helped to understand problems their parents have. They can gain an understanding of and acceptance for their own confused and frustrated emotions: - The Task Force on Aging for McHenry County, a volunteer committee of professionals who are interested in the well-being of older citizens and their families, will be repeating two workshops initially held in March of this year. Community members attending the March workshops reported a strong need for family emotional support. Two additional workshops will be held on Monday, May 14, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Memorial Hospital for McHenry County in Woodstock and repeated again on Wednesday, May 16, from 7:90 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at McHenry Hospital in McHenry for family members who provide home care for an older family member. Everyone is invited and en couraged to come. Guest speakers will talk about emotional support for family members and community resources to aid in elderly care. .
