SECTION 2 - PAGE 11 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, MAY 11, 1984 Neighborhood news Lakemoor/Lilymoor news: Ringwood news: Library Friends schedule book sale Volunteers for Meals on Wheels program The Friends of the McHenry Nunda Library, on Route 120 east of McHenry, will be collaborating on a Big Book and Bake Sale Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Many of the books have been donated to the library to be used or sold as deemed advisable, or have been withdrawn from library shelves. Included are many reference books, condensed novels, vin tage books of all kinds, paper backs-current and otherwise. Anita Kunz will be there looking for another first edition find. Come and browse, buy and even take home candy. Anyone wishing to help out with a donation of baked goods, may call friend Lorry Deeke at the library. Other friends who will be helping with this sale are Vickie Delp, Peggy Glus, Dottie Mentzer, Phyllis Croswell, Mary Stangle and Marie Stumpf. The money generated by this sale will be used to purchase needed items for the library. Remember Saturday, May 19 for an interesting, challenging, fun time at your library-looking for that special book no longer available at book stores, and at a minimal charge. Margaret Karas 385-4934 ROAD REPAIR Property owners living on Columbus Dr. met Monday evening at the home of Joe DeMarco, president of Hidden Valley Acres Association. The condition of Columbus Dr. was the main topic discussed. Nunda Township Road Com missioner Ed Hughes had previously left the instructions needed to bring the road up to township specifications. Each family has accepted the responsibility for paying toward the cost of the road building. Concern was voiced over the "Boat Race Day" suggested at the Lakemoor Village meeting, which would allow a day of racing by hydroplanes and runabouts. Lily Lake is a quiet lake, much too small for any kind of racing other than snowmobiles, particularly for up to 175 drivers at 55 to 75 mph. Two motor boats in July is about as much as this water can ac commodate at one time. <« The H.V.A. donated a much appreciated new flag to the McHenry Nunda Library. The members will be busy the next few weeks with the road project. As long time residents Mr. and Mrs. McMillan stated in the library, "It won't be the same without dodging those holes and having our cars bent out of shape." It is good to have people working together to improve their area. BIRTHDAY PARTY The Lily Lake Ladies League wished each other happiness at their combined birthday party at a local restaurant May 2. After dining, they adjourned to their meeting place for more talk, coffee and dessert. This group may be a year older, but they are still very active and have a good time at their monthly meetings. LOCAL POETESS "Home Spun Thoughts" is the title chosen, very appropriately, for a book of 100 poems written by Louise Hip well, which is now going through the publishing process. Louise is very excited with the knowledge that her writings will be made available to others in<*book form. An Author Party will be held for Louise at the McHenry Nunda Library after publication, where she will autograph her book for future owners. This has been a thrilling time for many people, including her husband Don, who has given his encouragement, and to many friends. I, too, played a small part in Louise's endeavor, having given her the first book in which to write her poetry. Many of us have read Louise's ̂words in the Plaindealer* past years. Soon they will be per manently recorded in a published book. And what is our talented authoress doing now? Oh, 4ust working on a quilt, carding and knitting woolen items, has just completed a lovely embroidered piece for the McHenry County Historical Society picturing the Historical Building with a poem written just for the museum, done in black thread, and, of course, already working on her next book of poetry! Amy Hensley, who will be five years old ̂Les Nejedly, also active with the village, has his day the 17th. The twentieth anniversary off their wedding date will be ob served by Sarah and Jessie Watldns of Hidden Valley Acres May 11. Children Chris, Steve and Sherry will be among those wishing tyem happiness. Ladies of the Ringwood churcH, will be doing Meals-on- Wheels the week of May 21 through 25. If you would like to participate in this project, give your name to Mary Butler. The meals are delivered Monday through Friday and it takes about an hour or sometimes a little longer to cover the route. SPRING EVENTS The calendar says spring is here but there are days we have questioned it temperature-wise. The little leagues and pony-tail leagues are getting into practice to ready themselves for that first big game. Doris Low 653-9262 Katy Christopher 385-8037 If you see bright lights crawling across a field at night like some big monster, it is a farmer working late hours with his tractor and equipment trying to get a few more acres planted before the next rain hits. There are those of us who bundle up to get some vegetables planted in our gardens so we can look forward to fresh produce this summer to NO MEETINGS The monthly meeting of the Lilymoor Association was held May 7 at the McHenry Nunda Library. The president position has not been filled, so necessary papers are being signed by vice- president Wayne Me$rer, treasurer Marion Vornkahl, and secretary Linda Citak. The next meeting of the association will be held in September, when plans for solutions to the fall and winter problems will be made. For information, call Marion at 385- 7276. CELEBRATIONS Birthday time for Stan Zaboski is May 12. Lakemoor's president' tor many years, Richard Hyatt, celebrates his day May 15. The siblings of Michael William Ford pf Parkside will help him blow out the one candle that will adorn his birthday cake on the 15th. Two Lakemoorites share May 16 as a birthday-Harry Brady, long time resident and shaper of the destiny of Lakemoor, and DDSs, DHDi, DCs, DVMs, JDs, MDs Welcome Wagon offers dis creet advertising to profes sionals in the medical, dental, health-care, legal and animal- care fields. The MacVie's had been neigh bors of Mary Behrendt for about four years, and even during thaU time, Mr. MacVie was often hospitalized. Sympathy is ex tended to his wife Ann and family. WELCOME VISIT Ramona Neeley, who grew up on our area, stopped for a visit at the library. She celebrated her eighteenth birthday May 7 and will participate in the graduation ceremony at East Campus, even though she completed her studies in January. She has been working at the same plant as her mother since school, and will be enrolled in a secretarial school in June. That is, if the transcripts ever get to the correct school. Ramona received notice from a machinist school thafner high school classes did not qualify her for entrance. She was surprised at this, and also pleased, because she has no plans of becoming a mechanic! Still a very compassionate and dear person, Ramona will be doing volunteer work on Sun days at a nursing home near Round Lake where she now lives with her mother. One of my fondest memories of Ramona is of this youngster about nine years old, who with her best friend Diane Pickett, and un beknownst to me, started painting the old library building, using one-inch wide paint brushes. And they completed what they began! Ramona is blessed with a personality that sees good in everyone, and is always a champion of the less fortunate. And I am thankful that I was able to watch her develop into this very dear adult person. GOD BLESS CaVfftAtt M YMM I AVTt MSMAMCEI Available from one of America's finest insurance companies! Then, after our recent big windstorm, there was a lot of work for some cutting up fallen trees and re-raking lawns to clear away debris. However, all the spring work gets done, we settle into our new schedule and hope to have some time to sit back and enjoy our lush, beautiful countryside. SPECIAL WEEKEND This past weekend was a beautiful one for all. We got no calls for news, so we assume that "just everyone" was en joying the weather by getting that garden planted and all that much needed lawn work done that the pesky rain has kept us from doing! A couple of evenings of finishing up should have everything done and shaped up so that we can go to doing those other special things on weekends. When doing these things, traveling, camping or just visiting family, give Katie or Doris a call and let us keep up with you this summer, also. Have a good one! CONGRATULATIONS "Happy Birthday" to Douglas Adams, May 17; and to Andrea Walker and Shane Hanson, May 18. May 19 finds Beverly Ackerman adding another candle to her cake, way down Texas way.
