Rusty Nail started it off with a 19-hit attack in a 14-8 win over Huemann's Water Con­ ditioning. But besides the hitting attack displayed, Rusty Nail also showed off its defensive skills as well. In the first inning John Smith made the (day on tough grounder and threw to second base for the out. Still in the first inning, John Walkington made a catch of a flyball at the fence to rob extra bases from Jim Althoff. Huemann's still managed to score three runs in that first inning, but the Rusty Nail shut down their offense the rest of the way. Don Bentz led Rusty Nail with three hits, one going for a double and one for a triple. He also knocked in two runs and scored three runs. A1 Stilling, Len Ackerman, John Cornell, Jim Zasata, John Walkington and Chuck Marke all had two hits each. One of Stilling's and Zasata's hits were triples. Jim Althoff had two hits for Huemann's, with one going for a triple. John Smith and Steve Kasprsak also added two hits each. Rusty Nail 13 Lakeside 0 Rusty Nail again combined good offense and defense and shutout Lakeside Inn 13-0 in the second game. This time Rusty Nail Inn scored in each of the five innings in a 12-hit attack. Lakeside Inn also helped Rusty Nail by committing five errors. This time Doug Freund led the Rusty tyail hitting attack with three hits, including a double, three rbi's and three runs scored. Don Bentz also knocked in three runs, but on two hits. John Walkington added two hits, while Jim Zasata slammed a triple. Huemann's 9 River Shannon 8 Huemann's Water Conditioning recovered from its loss in its first game and scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the River Shannon 9-8. Huemann's scored both runs with two outs. The first run was sewed when John Smith singled in Steve Kasprzak to tie the game at 8-8. The rally continued with Jim Althoff hitting a double and Tony Huemann reaching on a walk to load the bases. Tom Janik then took ball-four on a 3-2 count pitch to win the game. Businessmen 12 Doherty's 5 The Johnsburg Businessmen jinnped out to 0-0 first inning lead which Doherty's could not overcome. Again defensive plays were featured. Johnsburg's Irish DeCiccio snared a line drive to rob Twig Miller of a base hit, while Johnsburg shortstop Matt Oik robbed Paul Hyland of a hit catching a hot line drive. Offensively, Johnsburg was led by Mark Meyer's four-for-four performance. He knocked in four runs on two triples and scored three times. Tim Frantz was also perfect, batting three-for-three, with a double and three runs scored. Irish DeCiccio added three hits, while Scott Letzter and Matt Oik helped out with two hits each. Doherty's was led by Steve Mai's three-for-three batting and hitting a double. Gary lang had built up a 15-3 lead until McCullom Knoll scored three runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Lang sprayed out 10 hits in the win. Thennes, along with Jim Huff had three hits each, both hitting doubles. Thennes was involved in seven of the Gary Lang's 15 runs. He scored three runs and knocked in four. The Skyhawks wanted to make it their party as well. Johnsburg came into Satur­ day's meet tied for second in the NWSC with Marengo, both having 5-2 records. When the meet was all over, the Skyhawks had to settle with third place, as Marengo scored 80 points in the field events in route to a second place 100 point total. The Skyhawks scored 82, while Lake Zurich took home the NWSC title with 152 points. Marian Central finished seventh with 10 points. The rest of the field included Round Lake fourth with 71, Grant 70, Grayslake 59 and Wauconda eighth with eight. "This is the best finish for a Johnsburg track team in the conference," said Johnsburg coach Ben Beck. "I'm really pleased with everybody's performances. This speaks very highly of kids in the program. It took us a couple of years." Four Skyhawks captured first place medals, while hurdler Rich Dschida broke a meet record in the high hurdles with time of 15.0. Marian's top finisher was Andy Hartlieb, who took a second in the shot put, behind Johnsburg's Brian Siudak and a fourth in the discus. Dave Niedospial added fourth in the hurdles. iudak won the shot put with a maljrk of 48-1*. Hartlieb made 40-7 * Mike Lawrence captured the only other personal first with a 10:07.7 time in the 3,200 meter run. Other firsts came from . the 3,200 meter relay team ana the 1,000 meter relay team. The 3,200 meter squad of Pete Bjerning, Bartoske, Dust and Norman Rokosz finished in 8:42. Jerry Harker, Dust, Rokosz and Dschida all combined for a 3:36.7 time in the 1,600. Both Dschida and Rokosz also added seconds. Rokosz finished behind Dan Bray of Lake Zurich in the 1,600 meter run in 2:05.3, while Dschida finished behind Gregg Stan of Round Lake in 40.2. Siudak also picked up a third in the discus. Fourth's were recorded by Bjerning in the 800 meter run and John Kirk in the 200 meter dash. Fifths went to Lawrence in the 1,600 meter run, the 400 meter relay team and the 800 meter relay team. Freshmen dominated girls squad tune-up for future and Si sectionals ran their personal bests. In a couple of years these girls should be able to run with the best. You have to start Crown sectionals last Saturday., somewhere," said Boland. On top of that, no one on the ' Tv-J" " CARPENTERSVDLLE - The McHenry Warrior girls' track team only managed to place 15th out of 17 teams at the Dundee- Lady Warrior squad qualified for a berth at the state track meet held this weekend. However, Warrior coach Dan Boland isn't letting those facts disappoint him. After all, Boland took a squad that con­ sisted of only two seniors, but 17 freshmen. The way Boland looks at it, he is staring right at a prosperous future. "Most of the girls at the. Dundee-Crown won the sec­ tional title with 41 points, while Crystal Lake South followed with 36. McHenry scored 3Ms, while Johnsburg scored one points. Besides the personal bests, two school records were broken by the McHenry sqtiad. A fourth place finish by the Warrior 800 meter relay squad of Tracy Brechel, Lisa Lucarz, Toni Radec and Colleen Samen broke a school record in that event with a time of 1:52.3. The old record was 1:53.6 A second record was broken by..the 400 iroter relay team which took fifth. Brechel, Lucarz, Radec and Salena John were timed in 542.8, breaking the record of 53.1. The Warriors final place came from Delia Saunders in the 1,600 meter run. McHENRY SPLITS continued from page 22 hits. Vehring hit a triple and a double, while Teuber added a double. "We had men on base in the second game. We just couldn't hit them in." said Wilson. His Warriors had severt hits in the second game. "Both games were pretty long, but we played pretty weJJ."
