SECTION 2 - PAGE 3 - t>LAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY, MAY 1«, 19*4 Census bureau to survey in area The U.S. Bureau of the Census will conduct its regular survey on employment and unem ployment in the area during the week of May 14-19, according to Stanley D. Moore, director of the bureau's regional office in Chicago. In addition to the usual questions on employment and unemployment the May survey will have questions on adult education. - The survey is conducted for the U.S. Department of Labor in a scientifically designed sample of approximately 71,000 households throughout the United States. Employment and unemployment statistics based on results of the survey are used to provide a continuing measure of the economic health of the nation. For example, in March 1984 the survey indicated that of the 112.9 million men and women in the civilian labor force, 104.1 million were employed. The nation's unemployment rate remained at 7.8 percent. Information supplied by in dividuals participating in the survey is kept strictly con fidential by law and the results are used only to compile statistical tottls. Residents of the hotel residing on the third floor, where the fire started, fled the building upon learning that flames were spreading, but none was reported injured. The fire was discovered about 8:15 a.m. by Larry Brusso, an employee of Holly's service station, across the highway from the hotel. The flames destroyed one apartment and upper hall and damages were estimated at $50,000.
