Osborne' Plaindealer News Service At about 8:45 p.m. June 3, McHenry Police received a call of a motorist traveling with open liquor in the car. When stopped by police, the young man gave the name of Robert J. Miller, 18, of Crystal Lake, and said he did not have a driver's license. While en route to the McHenry Police station, "Miller" escaped from the squad car and led police on a chase from rcim and Borden Streets to i-iin«n Street. Apprehended once more, police found the man's true identity to be York J. Crawford, 27, of 540 Devonshire, Crystal Lake. They also found that his driver's license had been revoked and that he was wanted by the Algonquin Police Department. v Charged with driving with a revoked license, open liquor in a motor vehicle, escape and ob structing justice, Crawford was taken to McHenry County Jail. A report on June 2 of two men in a parked railroad car brought police to the train station on Main Street in McHenry. Officers Fitzgerald and O'Donnell arrived and found William H. Johnson, 24, 4121 Rigby, Crystal Lake, and William W. Oswald, 24, 704 Andrews Court, Crystal Lake, hiding in one of the Chicago and North Western train cars. Both men were charged with criminal trespass to motor vehicles and bond was set at $1,000 each. Pearl M. Osborne, 86, of Island Lake, died Friday, June 1, 1984, in McHenry Hospital. She was born March 1, 1888 in Boone County, 1L, the daughter of James and Mahala (DeWolf) Hughes, and had beoi a prac tical nurse. On Sept. 3, 1956, in Crystal Lake, she married Irving Osborne who survives. Other survivors are two sons. Bovd Knaack of McHenry and Charles Knaack of Florida; three daughters, Mrs. Herman (Carolyn) Knuth of Lake Mills, Wl, Mrs. Clarence (Doris) *^hurow and Evangeline Michaelis, both of Crystal Lake; 19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and one brother Roy Hughes of Huntley. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Henry Knaack; and one brother. Visitation was held Sunday at the Querhammer Funeral Home, Crystal Lake, where services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, with burial in McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock. Memorials may be made in her name to the Wauconda Rescue Squad. Nicholas P. "Nick" Miller, 69, of McHenry, died Friday, June 1, 1984 at Royal Terrace, McHenry. He was born in Ringwood Sept. 14,1914, the son of John and Anna (Jung) Miller. Mr. Miller „ lived in the McHenry area all his life; operated Jeep Auto Dealership, McHenry for 30 years and later was mechanic supervisor for McHenry Sand & Gravel. He was a veteran of WW n, serving overseas four years with the Army Engineering Corps; belonged to American Legion McHenry Post 491; VFW Fox River Post 4600 of McHenry; was a member and president of the McCullom Lake Gun Club; and member of McHenry Country Club. Surviving are his wife Freida; a daughter Connie Miller of John V. Schaan 11 people overboard in overloaded boat Plaindealer News Service An overloaded boat on the Fox River capsized last Saturday, putting 11 people in the water, however, no severe injuries were reported. According to McHenry County Sheriffs Police, a report was received of an overloaded boat heading north on the Fox River from the dam. The patrol boat located the craft and told the operator, Thor Trydal, 30, 121 Dorothy, Island Lake, to head for shore. While en route to the dock at th&end of Bull Valley Road, McHenry, the craft was swamped by other boats. Co. 1 of the McHenry^Town- ship Fire Department was dispatched to the^eene, where two people ~w^e treated for minor injuries. Trydal was cited by county police for having 11 people in a boat designed for four. John V. Schaan, 68, 1522 Marlinton Ln., Lakes of Regency Park, Port Richey, died Tuesday, May 22, 1984. Born in Balta, ND, he came to Port Richey three years ago from McHenry. Mr. Schaan was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service; a WW n Army Air Corps veteran; and member of St. Michael Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife Mary ; two sons, David of Long Beach, CA and Myron of McHenry; two daughters, Penny Williams of Cascade, MD and Vanessa Otricelli of Colorado.
