PAGE 19 - PLAIN DEALER - WEDNESDAY, JUNE 6,1964 Sports 2 Skyhawks, 1 Hurricane Youth Baseball make NWSC Softball list Johnsburg's top offensive player and pitcher were chosen by Northwest Suburban Softball coaches as all-conference performers for the 1984 spring season. Marian Central's Nancy Walsh joined the Skyhawks' Kathy Butler and Chris May on the team. Butler was the Skyhawks most valuable player, playing pitcher and shortstop. The senior pit­ cher was 4-7 on the conference season with a 2.18 earned run average. She struckout 26 and walked 36. Offensively, she batted .400 with eight extra base hits and 16 rbi's. "She was our team leader statistically," said Skyhawks coach Bob Schmitt. "This is her second year as all-conference and she is a four-year let- terwinner. "She allowed 97 runs to score, but only 29 were earned. She put the ball across the plate and let them hit it. She didn't allow many walks." Chris May is only a junior with a .372 batting average and 15 runs scored. She led the team with 13 walks. She also had a .820 fielding average at third base. "She was a very aggressive player," Schmitt said on May. "She has a good knowledge of Kathy Butler the strike zone. She was a very good bunter. She led the team in sacrifice hits." The rest of the NWSC squad included Donna Miller, Denise Jannings and Sandra Cermack of Wauconda; Rando Romani of Round Lake; Holly Hansen, Jennifer Zarcharski, Liz Ewing and Susan Lammert of Lake Zurich; Kathy Dennison, Lynnea Laudenbek and Shelly Patchett of Marengo, Jacque Frost, Lisa Tylkowski and Lori Williams of Grant and Val Utter and Jennifer McCannahan of Grayslake. McHenry Man's 12-inch Bob Michels double lifts McHenry Oil to 9-8 win Bob Michels doubled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and then scored on Pete Blackburn's bunt single to hand McHenry Oil-Jack's Snack Shop a 9-8 win over Brake Parts during McHenry's Men's 12-inch Softball Monday at Knox Park. Brake Parts had just tied the game in the top of the seventh on a two-run homer by Dave Colberg. McHenry Oil had taken a 7-4 edge into the sixth inning, and a 8-6 lead into the seventh. Dehn finished the game three-for-three, with two runs scored and two rbi's. The game was also won on defense. Dehn backhanded a ball in the first inning and threw to first for the out, as Mike Peterson scooped the ball out of the dirt. Bill Meyers made a good stop of a liner up the middle in the third inning, resulting in a 1-6-3 doubleplay. Terry Hovseth led West End at three-for-three, while Doc Wallen and Steve Lane each added two hits. Timberlind 14 Phylly's 5 Jamie Fung slammed a double and a triple for four rbi's in a three-for-three effort to lead a Timerbline 17-hit attack enroute to a 14-5 win over Phylly's Inn. Willie Howard, John Pappas and Leon Palates all added doubles, while Howard also had three hits. Mike Maves hit a three-run triple in the fifth inning for Phylly's Inn, while Bob Markham also tripled. West End 14 Timberline 6 Fred Stocker hit a two-run single in the first inning and also hit a double in a three-for-three peformance to lead West End to a 14- 6 win over Timberline Construction. Steve Lane was also three-for-three in the winning 19-hit, slamming out a double and a triple. Tom Burke added a homer and Chuck Gandolfi also doubled. Tim Shipley tripled for Timberline, while Steve Wohnrade hit a solo homerun in the sixth inning. Park's Man's 12 Inch Bimbos 9 Old Bridge 6 A pinch hit double by Vic Freund and a two-run single by Paul Adams scored the winning runs for Bimbos-John's Sports Stop during McHenry's recreational men's 12-inch at Knox Park Sunday. Triples by Ed Mack in the third inning and Jeff Munson in the fourth gave Bimbo's the early lead. Mack finished the game four- for-four, while Munson had three hits. Mark Dehn and Charlie Jesky both had three hits for the Old Bridge. Taylor Made 7 Caray 4 Taylor Made stayed undefeated by turning four double plays,' while Tom Nusbaum threw out one runner at the plate during recreational 12 inch softball at Knox Part Thursday. Nuabaum and Ed Schlewitz both had two hits each for the winners. Carey Electric was led by Paul Diedrich's three-for- three. Keith Schaffer hit a homerun in the first inning. Gary Lang 13 Qod Squad 6 Gary Lang Chevrolet scored 13 runs on 18 hits off of the God Squad during recreational 12-inch Thursday at Petersen Park. Cliff Bartolian led the winning attack at three-for-three and four runs knocked in, with a homer and two doubles. John Tbetmes hit a double and a triple, while Vic Romandine was two- for-two and Gary Thennes chipped in three hits. Wienmaim doubled, while Staufenhiel and Henderlong both tripled for the God Squad. McHenry vs. Wonder Lake 5-0, McHenry vs. Johnsburg 1-2. Ravens 17 Falcons 9: (June 3) Bill Fortino and Ed Fair knocked in five runs a piece, while Fred Bush went four-for- four in the winning effort. Fortino added two doubles, Fair a triple, Bush a double and Brian Buell hit two doubles. Bush was also the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts. Buell and Larson pulled off a double play in the third inning. Bluebirds 7 Hawks 6: (June 2) Marc Hubbard knocked in the tying run with a single in the sixth inning, stole second and third and scored the winning run on a dropped third strike. Jim Oeffling had put the Hawks in front in the top of the sixth with a run scoring double. Vic Olson had given the Bluebirds the lead in the fifth with a run-scoring double. Bret Derby was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts. Roadrunners 12 Condors 4: (June 2) Matt Murphy led the winners with two homeruns and a double which knocked in seven' runs. Murphy finished the game three-for-three. Jack Watrous had three hits. Matt Murphy was the winning pitcher with 10 strikeouts and only gave up five hits. Mike Gebert, Jim Sizemore and Jamie Franklin all hit triples for the Condors. Cardinals4 Orioles 3: (June 1) Tim Mauer singled 9 in Chris Anthony for the winning run in the eighth inning. The Orioles' Brian Johnson picked a low throw out of the dirt from the first baseman to tag out Tim Mauer at the plate for the third out in the sixth inning to send the game into extra innings. Mauer led the winners with three rbi's on two hits, while Tim Glossan added a double. Jeff Carl had two hits for the Orioles. Bob Glus was the wining pitcher in relief. Marc Siefert also hit a double. Brian Bromley was the winning pitcher with nine strikeouts and only gave up four hits. Roadrunners 15 Owls 1: (May 30) Jack Watrous led the win­ ners at three-for-three, three runs scored with a triple. Jim Simon hit a triple and scored three times. Watrous was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts, while only giving up five hits and no walks. Dan Mazurek was two-for-two for the Owls and Mike Hettermann hit a triple. Indians 7 Ravens 3: (May 24) The Indians scored four runs in the first inning and three in the third to win the game. McHenry minors . Chris Wolff and Ron Slaughter each chipped in with doubles. Eagles 5 Cardinals •: (Junel) Todd Busche hurled a three- hitter in striking out nine batters forihe shutout. Billy Vaveric led the winning offense with a double, while Danny Wasilowski hit a triple for the Cardinals. Robins 11 Falcons 4: (May 31) Pat Crow slugged a double and added two more hits to lead the winners. Andy Staufenbiel added a double, while Daron Matheson hit two doubles. Tim Henmp was two-for-two. Bud Benson led the Falcons with two hits. Bluebirds 8 Red Sox 4: (May 29) Adam Lazar held the Red Sox to four hits and struckout 10. Mike Zimmerman was two-for- two, while Lazar and Rusin added a hit each. Bill Marinangel was three-for-three for the Red Sox and Jim Seeberger was two-for-two. Bluejays 39 Sparrows 4: (May 30) A 26-hit Bluejay attack was too much for the Sparrows to handle. Alan Kraft and Dave Grove led the attack at four-for- four each, while Rusty Witt was two-for-two and Jake Schlender four-for-five. Kraft.knocked in five runs, while Witt was credited with a double. Erik Ekstrom was the winning pit­ cher. The Sparrows' Jerry Luciano was two-for-two. • Hawks 14 Falcons 12: (June 3) The Hawks scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win the game, with Jaime Carney knocking in two runs. Carney was three-for-three with four rbi's. Dave Hartman had three hits and three runs scored. Bill O'Brien and Jim Lennon both added doubles. Bill Kecia led the Falcons with three hits and five rbi's. Knowyk added a double. Bill O'Brien struckout four in gaining the pitching win. Bluebirds 14 Hawks €: (June 2) The Bluebirds slugged nine of their 12 total hits in the fifth inning scoring nine runs. Mike Zimmerman led the winners with a double, triple and three rbi's. He was also the winning pitcher, striking out 12. Adam Lazar and Tom Hysell both doubled. Randy Jones, Bill O'Brien and Bob Lennon all doubled for the Hawks. McHenry minis Cubs 17 Twins 5: (June 2) John Bach hit a grand slam homer, while Jeremy Rusin hit a three-run shot and Adam Koleno a two-run homer in the Cubs winning effort. Buch also doubled. Brian Katta came in relief to pick up the win. Braves 15 Giants 7: (June 1) Jessie Schmitt hit a grand slam homer and added a solo homer to lead the Braves. Mike Krumsie also added a homer. Astros 5 Brewers 3: (May 30) Jason Faunt hit a two-run homerun, while Mike Lamarche hurled a two hitter and struckout 12 for the win. Scott Roper added a double for the winners. Dodgers 12 Indians 2: Kevin Brown slugged a two-run homer ami a two-run triple to lead the winAers. Brent Malenius helped out on the mound throwing a four-hitter and striking out 13. Jeff Glab hit two doubles and Danny Suchomski hit one double. to their fourth straight win. Sondra Weiler's grand slam homer led the winning 18-hit attack. Weiler also added a double and knocked in a total of seven runs. Kim Belzer added a homerun and three rbi's, while Tracy Johnson and Eileen Douglass both had three hits. Belzer was the winning pitcher with 12 strikeouts. Jan Gaines and Wendy Biggerstaff each had a hit and two rbi's for McHenry State Bank. Classic Trophies 28 McHenry Favorite 14: (June 2) Classic Trophies raised its record to 4-1 after the 27-hit win. Stacey Johnson and Brenda Bromley each went four-for-four for the winners, while Julie Erkenswick was three-for-three. Johnson hit a homerun and Angla Moore hit a triple, while Tammy Roach and Bromley hit a double each. Timberlee Steward was the winning pitcher. Butler knocked in seven rbi's on a homerun, double and a single. Frantz was four-for-four and Fox three-for- three. Classic Trophies 21 Kiwanis 2: Pam Gregorio led the 13-hit winning attack with three hits, including a double. Amy Sauers was two-for-two with a double, while Stacy Johnson also had two hits. Shelly Sauers was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts. Powers was two-for- two for Kiwanis and Schmidt hit a double. McHenry Savings and Loan 22 Favorite Sport 7: Winning pitcher Jenny Acred also helped out at the plate with a single, double and a triple. Tammy Klassen hit a double and a triple, while Kelly Corrigan was two- for-three. Butler had two homers for Favorite Sport Junior Country Junction def. Fashion Shoppe: (May 29) Carmi Schultz, Laurie Pottgether and Amy Williams each drove in five runs to lead the winning attack. Heather Mack scored four times. Jenie Arient, Jane Pottgether, Candy Broker, Stacey Castillo and Michele Kirsch scored three times each for the winners. April Baker scored twice for the losing Fashion Shoppe. The winning pitcher was Laurie Pottgether, with Kim Eye taking the loss. Pony Yegge Accounting 22 Sullivan Foods 6: Back to back homeruns by Rachel Prushinski and Lee lindquist led the 17-hit winning attack. Tammy Bonde con­ tributed with a triple, double and a single Renay Lewis and Denise Stasiak both had three hits, while Lewis hit a double. Prushinski was the winning pitcher. Tammy Guy led Sullivan's with two hits. Country Junction 19 McHenry Kiwanis 2: (May 29) Winning pitcher Laurie Pottgether only- allowed two hits. Julie Arient contributed six runs to the winning cause, while Heather Mack and Candy Broker went three-for-three for the winning team. Kristine Golik took the loss. Players born on, or before Nov. 30, 1978 are eligible to play this fall. Children born between Dec. 1, 1978 and Nov. 30 1979 will be eligible to play in the spring of 1985.
