Help offered for learning disabled college students SECTION 2 - PAGE S - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY. 4, 1*4 Communicative Disorders Service wishes to inform the residents of McHenry County of its schedule of Saturday The programs are designed to help prevent communication disorders from occurring, and to offer coping techniques to college»bound, learning- disabled students. Parent Training Workshops will be held on June 9, July 23, and August 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the CDS offices, located at 330 W. Terra Cotta Ave. Route 176 in Crystal Lake. Parents, grandparents and "significant others" are en couraged to attend on the Saturday of their choice. The primary goal is two-fold: to help parents realize their effectiveness as language teachers, and to help them recognize early signs of dif ficulties in learning beofre their children fail or fall behind in school achievement. College-bound students who have a history of learning dif ficulties, but are determined to acquire a college education, may need more than their determination. CDS staff feels that they can offer time- management, note-taking, and goal-setting techniques as coping behaviors that can help them maximize their college experiences. Call the office regarding fees and to reserve a Saturday, June 19 or 30, August 11 or 25 at (815) 455-3101. POOLS N STUFF E V E R Y T H I N G Y O U N E E D POOLS-SPAS-SAUNAS Who is imitating who? "Your imitation of the baby is the name of the game", says Carole J. Pilchard of Communicative Disorders Service, as she encourages a young mother in a play session. However, such willingness to participate with one's child, on the child's level, is a potent tool for developing language. II.P.S.
