70 years in service Patient needs dictate care changes JUL 9,1914 -- Hospital association form­ ed as Woodstock Public Hospital, the association taking over a private hospital operated at 417 Clay Street by Dr. Hyde West. Jam. 4, 1915 -- Hospital moves into the Judge Theodore Murphy home on West South street, present site of the hospital 1937 -- 27-bed hospital constructed with help of money from Dr. and Ms. George Bentley and Mrs. Julia Herrington. Total of 42 beds. 1945 -- Woman's Auxiliary organized to help make patients' stay more comfor­ table through fundraising and service within the hospital. Dec. 9,1955 -- Break ground for $850,000 new addition, raising to 65 the number of beds in the hospital, which retains 32 beds in the 1937 wing and tearing down the Mur­ phy home that remained at rear of the 1937 structure. June 29, 1958 -- Dedicate new hospital which included major ancillary facilities as operating rooms, maternity depart­ ment, laboratory, kitchen, X-ray area, medical records, pharmacy, lobby and snack bar. October 1965 -- Construction to fill out third floor in the Bentley wing to add six beds and to install a new elevator in that wing. Jan. 23,1969--Association members ap­ prove borrowing $1.5 million to construct first step of the expansion, the biggest con­ struction project in the hospital's 55-year history. April 16,1982--Lee Pesce announces the board has approved installation of a full body CT scanner, scheduled for installa­ tion in September. May 3,1882 -- Board approves plans to double the emergency service area with more private examination and treatment rooms, a waiting area for patients and family inwnlieia and a private consulta­ tion area. Also induded is improved recep­ tion area, nurse's station and additional staff space. Auxiliary pledge of $150,000 will be used for this area. May 16,1862 -- Board's approval of new community-conference room in the South Pavilion basement is announced following the board's late April meeting. The room will provide space for community groups, health-related organizations and hospital department gatherings. Oct 4, MB--Keith Poi--on joins staff as Nev. 2,1982--Third floor medical unit in the South Pavilion opens for patient care with 30 beds. Jan. 25, 1983 -- Auxiliary announces $25,000 gift to expand snack bar and gift shoo at hosnital. February 1963 -- Outpatient Service Coiter opens. Aug. 4, 1983 -- Memorial Hospital and Family Service and Community Mental Health Center announce establishment of a countywide alcohol and substance abuse program to include detoxification and rehabilitation. Aug. 22,1963--Pesce announces the four new surgical suites are in service since late July. Oct 18, 1983 -- Construction begins on new gift, shop and snack bar at front entrance. Jan. 8, 1884 -- Memorial Hospital observes 70th anniversary with open house for staff in cafeteria. Marc^K, 1984-Mental Health unit, ex­ panded to/nibeds, opens as a doeed unit. May 14, 1964 -- Expanded lobby opens. Auxiliary snack bar and gift shop opens. Auxiliary begins its newest service of staf­ fing front reception desk daily. May 23, 1984 - Robert Kajdan, newly named director of the alcoholism- substance abuse unit announces the unit will go into service on July 8 with 14 beds for inpatient treatment -- New chapel is dedicated.
