The service is coor dinated by the education department with the help of the Auxiliary. The children are taken through the Emergency Department, X-ray and Laboratory. Hie program is derived to acquaint children with the hospital and help alleviate some of their fears. The program is successful and the number of children going on tours in creases every year. Birr - PARAMEDIC EDUCATION As-the associate hospital in the McHenry-Western Lake County MICU System, Memorial Hospital actively par ticipates in the aiyi continuing education of EMTs and paramedics. EMTs and paramedics are required to have a stipulated number of clinical hours with hands-on experience. This clinical ex perience time is spent in the Emergency Department and is supervised by the physician and nursing staff. HEALTH INFORMATION CENTER As a community health care facility, Mgwinq-iai H<«pitni IMM some responsibili ty for community education in the form of preventive measures as well as informa tion about the health care field itself. In IMS, Manorial Hospital developed a Speaker's Bureau program entitled the "Health Information Center." This service provides a list of physicians, purses, and other health professionals who will present various subjects to groups, organisations, schools, and churchos. In observance of National High Blood Pressure Month, Memorial Hospital pro vides blood pressure screening services. Since there are rarely signs or symp toms associated with high blood pressure, it is important to have a yearly Mood pressure check. Complications of high blood pressure left untreated are heart disease, kidney disease, and stroke. Each year, Mood pressure stations are set up at two or three locations in Woodstock. Free pamphlets and materials on blood pressure and low salt diets are available. Each person going through the station receives a wallet-sized card with their blood pressure recorded. CLERGY SUPPORT 8ERVICES A series of programs was developed to provide a group setting for dialogue bet ween community clergy and the nursing staff of Memorial Hospital. The programs have been arranged by the Education Department to "develop a dialogue with the clergy for the purpose of working with hospital personnel to provide the patient and family with appropriate in teraction and understanding." The programs have consiked of discus sion regarding special aspects of patient care in various units throughout the hospital. Hospital staff participated in "role (Haying" demonstrations, discussed needs for clergy, family and patient in teraction, and provided a glossary of terms specific to each hospital area. This joint effort is helpful in maintaining the hospital's philosophy of patient care. CPR (Cardlo-putmonary resuscitation) instruction is offered regularly to the public. Memorial Hospital participates in the paramedic training program also.
