SECTION 2 - PAGE 8 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, JUNE 8,1384 Neighborhood news Ringwood: School Honor Day recognizes small children antf grownups Near the closing of the school year, an Honor Day was held for first graders of Ringwood Elementary School. Principal Kim Perkins of Ringwood and Busch schools announced the following youngsters of our community received awards: Matthew Benson, Michelle Doris Low 653-9262 Katy Christopher 385-8Q37 VanEvery, Cary Haskell, Jaimie Ellison and Chad Bauer. Our congratulations to these young people. Also, two adults in our town were recognized for the un selfish giving of their time in assisting students in the school. They are Mary Baker for 11 years helping in the learning center, reading center and lunch room; and Lil Visconti for jier three years in the learning center. Each of the ladies was presented with a rose bush. INJURED Michelle Daurio is learning to get around these days with a cast on her leg. She participated in the Montini Primary School Olympics and injured her leg. When taken in for x-rays, it was found she had suffered a stress fracture. Her injury was quite the center of attention the last day of school, for everyone in her third grade class signed the cast. Now Michelle will have a keepsake should she wish to remember this unfortunate happening. VISIT HERE Former Ringwood residents, Jim and Millie McFarland, will be visiting in the home of Mike and Nancy Daurio this weekend. The McFarlands now live in Indiana where they have a health food store. We also un derstand they will be celebrating their anniversary this weekend, so our very best wishes go to them for many more happy years together. UNUSUAL SHOWER Doris Low and her sister Marge Fernstrom of McHenry attended a "Backwards Shower" for their niece, Julie Thomas, at the home of Julie's aunt, LuAnn Poll of Ingleside. The fact that Julie couldn't be present is why it was a 'Back wards Shower'. Everyone brought their gifts unwrapped so they could share what they were giving to Julie with all those present. Then, they were wrapped and Julie's aunt LuAnn will take them to her to unwrap at a later time. 'Twas fun, and of course, pictures were taken to be given to Julie. RETURNED HOME Chris and Sally Delby are home from a prolonged vacation a short time ago. They spent time with her family out West and had a very enjoyable visit. Now they are home and busy, like everyone else, with work and the worry of getting the lawn done and taking care of the garden MMr-k. ̂ CONGRATULATIONS "Happy Birthday" to Mary Spencer on June 14; and to Marge Nolan and Jeffrey Marcinisk (out there on Ridgeway), June 15. Judy Mough will add another candle to her cake June 16; as Vivian Jackson will do on June 17. June 19 will be that special day for Robert A. Decker, way down in Florida. Also eqjoyed during her stay was a French movie seen at the movie festival held at the university, and a museum commemorating World War n. Perhaps most important was talking, sharing and remembering with her daughter and Michael. The trip by bus was thoroughly enjoyed by Ann, as she finds traveling indirect routes is much more scenic than quick driving on interstate high ways. Her picture of Iowa was completely changed after seeing cities such as Council Bluffs, and discovering that it isn't just a flat state of monotonous scenery. The bus drive was comfortable with enough stops for food and exercise. Ann is looking forward to visiting another daughter in the state of Washington, and will perhaps opt for the bus route again to really get a panoramic picture of our great west. SURPRISE! Patti Hertel was in the midst of activities resulting from graduating from East campus High School, so did not notice additional planning going on in her home. Patti's brother Mike, stationed in Hanua, Germany, had made arrangements for a leave to coincide with her graduation. This was a well- guarded secret, and many times mother Laurie and gramma Effie Hertel had to literally bite their tongues not to give it away. Mike arrived at his home in Lilymoor Friday, May 25 at 9:30 p.m., and Patti's surprise was authentic, receiving her best graduation present ever. The fun continued on through Memorial Day weekend, with a family reunion in LaPorte, Ind. Bud won the photographer's award with various shots of the sky, sidewalk, and even three dif ferent batters hitting what seemed to be the same pitch! Mike left for Germany June 3, to return home in January, 1965 when his two and one-half years of service will be completed. So now it's back to the routine of daily events at the Hertel household. Oh yes, Laurie does have her voice back. ANNIVERSARIES The month of June, a traditional time for weddings, includes those of Les and Barbara Nejedly and Delbert and Karen Douglass, both on the 8th. Mary and Lonnie Wilson, Sr. celebrate theirs on the 9th. Hie 14th is W. Day for Dick and Cherie Mumma. Enjoy your time together and each other. SMOKEY IS 40. That symbol of fire safety, Smokey the Bear, will be celebrating his fortieth birthday this year. Dick Pierce, creator of lovely miniature pewter works, called his favorite reference place, the McHenry Nunda Library, to try to locate a full size picture of Smokey. As library people go to any lengths for patrons, librarian Margaret Karas went across Lily Lake Rd. to the McHenrvFire Station 3, and asked Del Douglass for help. The attic storage area waa searched and a pamphlet with a full size Smokey was unearthed. BAD LUCK "Will it never stop?" has been Krista Rogman's sad question these last months. Along with having to replace household equipment in their home in LQy Lake Park, there was little Erin's hospital stay, followed by her father Ken being a patient. Last week was Krista's turn. She was working outside using a pitchfork to move assorted debris, when a tine went into her leg. There was much blood, a visit to the E.R., stitches, pain, and then immobility for several days. Now that all three have received medical care at the hospital, with resulting high costs, we truly hope that this _ "bad luck" has stopped, and that only good things await Krista, Ken and Erin for many years to come. ~ GOD BLESS : Spring Hill Mall UNBELIEVABLE H E W H O M L ^Memory Craft--> 6000 j|j|̂ £ ONLY Tb* Mom* Sowing Computer " SAVEWOOTOO MEMORY 7 ONLY $799.00 Ffse-enw wtMi I buHt-tn utility studies plus MtO (Nltioflkolt* e» tajli |^| lifcfc. tana msA§ ONLY $299.00 •SO Free Arm heavy duty. ~ ONLY $199.00 N.
