Host Bob Lape Introduces brief segments on a variety of entertain­ ing topics, such as sumo wrestling or Japanese fashion design. But one thing separates this pro­ gram from most other shows like it -- it involves the viewer. At the end of each show, Lape asks mem­ bers of tne home audi­ ence to send questions about Japan and requests for topics they'd like to see covered. But the big draw is that the show sponsors trips to Japan for lucky viewers. The first such winner is Sidney Cohn, a New York City taxi driver who spent a week in Tokyo last month with his wife. On June 10. "Japan Today" airs the couple's experi­ ences. CABLE ROCK - If rock 'n' roll is for the young, then Nickelodeon, the children's channel, is on the right track. The channel premieres two new series this month, both about rock music. "Nick Rocks: Video to Go," a program about rock videos, will play eve­ ry weekend this month and daily beginning in July. "The Saturday Concert" is the other new series, a one-hour show featuring a different band s concert perform­ ance every week. On June 16, Adam Ant's Tokyo concert is the offering. CRYSTAL QUEST -- Jim Henson created an incredible world of magi­ cal creatures for "The Dark Crystal." airing June 10 on HBO and June 13 on The Movie Channel. Though critics panned it when it was released in the theaters, the film doesn't deserve the bad reviews. In the story, a young Gelfling must reach the crystal to allow goodness to rule the world once again before evil takes over forever. The film is visually beautiful with sophisticated technology that makes the characters incredibly lifelike. It's worth watching. ©tt04 Competes
