Birds that flew were Dot Shadel (her first ever) on number 14, Liz Nolan on six, Nell Fidler on 12 and Floss O'Connell and Gloria Spiess on 18. Flossie 0. got hers via a chip-in. Fran Herman chipped in on number two and Marilyn Wiggerman did the same on seven. For the main event of the day Nell Fidler was the winner in class A, Carole Barnicle dittoed in class B, Melanie Frett took the honors in a walkaway in class D, while Carol Bolger eked by Katfay Vehring in the hottest race of the event when both gals had to go several holes over the regulation 18. In the regular weekly events, Nell low netted with 70, followed by a tie for second low net of 73 between Gloria Otth and Virginia Turner. In class B it was Carole Barnicle with net 71 and Laverne Harpling with 72. A tie for low putts of 31 each was shared by Evie Castle and La verne. In class C, Carole Bolger low netted with 65, while Kathy Vehring had 66. Fran Herrmann had 31 putts in that class. And in class D, Melanie Frett low netted with 74, followed by Betty Wayman with 78. Betty also had low putts of 33. With a change in the greens, putting is harder this year. Next week will bring the first of four rounds of the elimination tournament match play. Many of the girls will be seen during the week sharpening their skills in anticipation of this endurance contest. This reporter was ribbed by her foursome since she arrived at number 15 hole at tee time, but minus her clubs and had to go back to the clubhouse to retrieve them. Her opponent, Nancy Jeffers, and she played the whole match in togetherness. They both landed behind one of the big oaks on 16 with their balls one foot apart and both lost their balls on 11. Judy Schmitt had Shirley Sutton to thank as on her drive Shirley's ball hit Judy's and knocked it 10 feet nearer to the pin. Jan Lowery had a nice chip-in on four. Nancy Kemp chipped in on 14 and Diane Derby did the same on nine. Those printers gremlins got on the job last week and Marianne Whitehead was not credited for two chip-ins and Dee Price for hers. Sorry girls. Next Tuesday we begin our three week tournament. The two best scores of each participant will determine the winner in each class. Marilyn Ehlen has tickets for the NIMC benefit golf outing on July 16. It will be a fun day, so get a foursome and see her next Tuesday for tickets. Esta. RUSTY continued from page 21 Rusty Nail only needed 10 hits for the win, with Doherty's totaling 15. The Rusty Nail used three double plays in the first three innings to hold down Doherty's. Wakitsch knocked in four runs, batting two-for-two. John Meyers also had two hits. Steve Mai, Paul Hyland, Dan Quinn all went three-for-three. Mai hit two doubles, while Hyland added a double. Tom Roach had three rbi's. Lakeside Inn 10, Shannon 9 Ron Cass singled in Steve Schmidt in the sixth inning for what proved to be the winning run in a Lakeside Inn 10-9 win over River Shannon. Schmidt had led off the sixth with a double. Both Schmidt and Cass finished the game three-for-three at the plate, with Cass knocking in three runs. Paul Bazan added two hits! John Griffith led the winners at three-for-three, while Bob Doran added one hit. Kaywood was two-for-two for Bunky's with three rbi's. Funk'a Plumbing 16, Back Door 6 A seven-run fifth innng by Funk's Plumbing kept its record unblemished, going on to a 15-5 win over Bade Door Tavern. A bases loaded double by Steve Drake and a double by Hugh McGowan led the winners. Greg Bartos also drove in a run with a single. Old Bridge 16, Slue Carnal 12 A two-run single by Joe Meyer and three-run homer by John Dehn resulted in five runs in the seventh inning for Old Bridge- Buss Ford and a 15-12 win over Blue Camel. Old Bridge jumped out to a GO lead on a two-run double by Bob Tonyan, while Tee Tonyon knocked in three runs. Bob Tonyan led the winners at four-fbr-four at the [date, with four rbi's. Meyer added three hits and three rbi's, while Dehn knocked in four runs on one hit. Buzz Frett was three-for-three, with a double and three rbi's for Blue Camel. Butch Meyer added three hits for two runs and two rbi's. Youth Baseball McHenry minors Red Sox 11, Bluejays 8: (June 9) Terry Trocki hit an out-of-the park homerun to spark the Red Sox. Trocki also added a double. Scott Johnson helped out with a triple, while Pete Low added a double. Trocki was also the winning pitcher, only allowing three hits and striking out six. Watromus doubled for the Bluejays. Eagles 9, Falcons 9: (June 8) The Falcons scored two times in the bottom of the sixth inning to force the tie. The game featured four putouts at the plate, with three executed by the Falcons. Jim Green and Jake Wakitsch each hit two triples for the Eagles. Green added a homerun, while Wakitsch was fouMor-four at the plate. Both Stewart Mcvicar and Ken Black had two hits. Mark Floss of the Eagles and Mark Hutt of the Falcons pitched the last four innings of the contest. Robins 19, Eagles 5: (June 10) While the offense scored more than enough runs, Mark Weak- man held down the Eagles with 13 strikeouts. Tim Hennip, Pat Crow, Sean Dillon and Weak- man all had three hits each for the winners. Chris Wolff, Billy Vavric and Derek Schultz all had a hit for the Eagles. Owls 12, Orioles 11: (June 8) The Owls held off a sixth inning rally by the Orioles, with only two runs scored. Russell Sexton was credited with the defensive catches of the game. He made a shoestring catch to execute a double play. Brian Nystrom and Jim Troedel each had two hits for the winners, with Troedel adding a double. Nystrom finished with three rbi's and two runs scored. Ricky Stark led the Orioles at three-for-three and four rbi's. including two doubles. Ronnie Neece homered and doubled, while Steve Smith knocked in five runs on a double. Mark Prather chipped in with two hits. Tom Beyer was the winning pitcher with six strikeouts. Robins 14, Owls 12: (June 3) The Robins battle back from a 7- 3 deficit with a eight-run fourth inning to win. Winning pitcher Mark Sonnichsen struckout nine, while adding a triple from the plate. Pat Crow and John Geraghty each had two hits for the Robins, with Crown hitting a double. Brian Nystrom went four-for-four for the Owls, in­ cluding two doubles. Mathew McGregor also doubled. Robins 24, Sparrows 1: (June 5) A 10-run first inning lifted the Robins to the win. Mark Son­ nichsen led the 10-hit winning attack at four-for-four, hitting a triple. The winners were paced by singles hit by Jason Swietlik, Ryan Boland, Ryan Klop- fenstein and Aragorn Dimopoulos. Tommy Barrett added a double. Cabs 11, Brewers 4: (June 5) Winning pitcher John Buch allowed only four hits and struckout 12, while doubling and tripling for four rbi's. Brian Katta doubled twice. Billy Hauck helped out by a line drive and throwing to Jeremy Rusin for the double play. Mets 9, Cabs 4: (June 3) The ttets broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning with six runs. Norm Swanson led the Met charge with a double and a single, while Dan Geske added three hits. Joe McQuade had two hits. Matt Roy was the winning pitcher with 11 strikeouts. Both Angie West and Tracy Johnson had three* hits for the winners. West had two doubles and four rbi's, while Johnson hit one double. Winning pitcher Eileen Douglass helped out with two hits and four rbi's. Tammy Roach, Pam Gregorio and Shelly Sauers all had two hits for Classic Trophies. Amber Freund hit a grand slam homerun and participated in turning a doubleplay in the third inning Kiwanis 14, Country Junction 14: (June 4) After Kiwanis scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, Country Junction scored four runs in the bottom half to tie the contest Dawn Murphy had one hit and two rbi's for the Kiwanis. Jenine Arientand Heather Simons each knocked in four runs for Country Junction on two hits. Arient added a homerun. Candy Broker chipped in three hits for three ibi's. Country Junction Drive la 22, Fashion Shoppe l: (June 9) Country Junction scored seven runs in the first inning and 15 runs in the second. Heather Simons and Carmi Schultz each knocked in five runs. Schultz slugged a homerun and hit two singles. Heather Mack, Laurie Pottgether and Stacy Castillo all went three-for-three for the winners. Pottgether homered and doubled. Candy Broker also had three hits. Pottgether was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts. Pony Yegge Accounting 17, Sullivan Foods 7: Yegge Accounting used 22 hits in the win. Sheri Knaack and Lisa Johnson led the win­ ners four-for-four at the plate, with Knaack knocking in four runs and Johnson three. Winning pitcher Rachel Pnishinsld struckout nine. Bike marathon set The third annual Bicycle Across the Manificent Miles of Illinois bike ride is scheduled for Aug. 5-11. The 450-mile ride is sponsored by the Illinois Credit Union League and the Chicago Lung Association. The ride will follow a north-by-west-by-south route, starting at Buckingham Foutain in Chicago and passing through Antioch, Rockford, Mt. Carroll, Moline, Galesburg, Nauvoo and ending in Quincy.
