To ensure mail delivery is left in good order while on vacation, McHenry Postmaster, LeRoy M. Smith recommends the following options: Travelers can have mail kept safely for their return by asking someone they trust - a friend or neighbor - to check their mailbox everyday and hold the mail. They can arrange for the post office to hold delivery of mail for up to 30 days. "Contact the post office to complete the ap propriate form," says Smith, "And remember to notify the post office promptly upon your return to resume normal delivery." If they prefer, travelers can arrange for mail to follow on their travels, for ur to 40 days, by informing the post office where to forward the .mail for a specified time, after which it will be held for their return. Says Smith, "Be sure to instruct the motel, hotel or home you are visiting to forward any mail that Rigidaire DEHUMIDIFIERS GET THE WET OUT! [OFrkjktaire IW ELECTRIC 1005 N. Smith also suggests travelers in the U.S. buy stamps in ad vance in case a post office isn't conveniently located and, when possible, to deposit mail in business district collection boxes, which have more frequent and later pick-ups. Persons traveling abroad will require postage stamps of the country from which they mail. Smith notes that experienced travelers take along pre- addressed envelopes, postal cards and labels including that all important zip code for their correspondence. "This saves time and helps keep addressing legible and accurate," Says Smith.
