Both Brian Buell and Rich Larson each doubled. Bill Fortino struckout eight batters for the win. Ravens 11, Bluebirds 7: (June 16) The winners were sparked by a five-run first inning and led by Brian Buell batting three-for- three with a double. Buell was also the winning pitcher, allowing only two hits and striking out three. Marc Hub bard, Vic Olsen, Dave Cable and Joe Kinnerk all had one hit for the Bluebirds. Johnsburg majors Johnsburg Twins 7, Wonder Lake Phillies 2: Winning pitcher Sean Kegel threw a no-hitter while striking out seven. A six- run fifth inning was the dif ference for the Twins. Kegel also led at the plate, slugging a rbi triple. Both Rich Connery and Derek Moser had a hit a piece, while Connery knocked in three runs. Mike Savino scored twice. McHenry minors Bluejays 15, Hawks 13: Bluejays built up a 15-9 lead after 5% innings, and then hung on for the win. A seven-run first inning sparked the winners. Dave Grove was the Bluejays top hitter, three-for-three at the plate with three runs scored and three rbi's. Mark Erkinswick, Chris Roth, Ben Winnkelman and Alan Kraft all had two hits a piece. Kraft was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts. Bob Lennon hit a double and a triple for the Hawks. Both Mike Molina and Dave Hartman had two hits. Owls 7, Bluejays 5: The Bluejays spoiled Matt McGowan's shutout with a five- run sixth inning, but fell short to the Owls. McGowan only allowed four hits and struckout 10. McGowan also led the winners at the plate with two hits and three runs scored. Alan Kraft tripled and Erik Ekstrom doubled for the Bluejays. Ekstrom was two-for-two. Hawks 17, Sparrows 7: (June 17) Billy O'Brien went foui^for- four for the winners with two runs scored, four rbi's, including a double. Randy Jones helped out at three-for-three, including two triples and five rbi's. Bob Lennon was the winning pitcher, allowing only one hit and striking out seven. The Sparrows were led by Chris Delisle with a double and two runs scored, while Werhane added a hit. Delisle denied Jones of an inside-the-park homer by throwing him out at homeplate. Bluebirds 19, Sparrows 3: Pitcher Tom Brefeld's two- hitter combined with Jeff Lundy's three doubles to lead the Bluebirds. Brefeld kept the Sparrows in check with 12 strikeouts. Lundy knocked in five runs with his three hits. Brefeld helped out on offense hitting three-for-three with two doubles. Adam Lazar added a double and a single, while Ryan hit two doubles. West End broke a 2-1 Lakeside Inn with four runs in the third inning. Don Prazak's two-run double ignited the rally. Chuck Gandolfi was the top hitter for the winners, hitting a double, triple and a single. Fred Stacker was two-for-two with a double. Defensively, the Pub pulled off two doubleplays. Ron Cass led Lakeside with two doubles and a triple, while Dave Schmidt also tripled. John Brazan was two-for-two. West End 13, Phylly's 4 Another 17-hit attack gave West End an evening sweep, defeating Phylly's Inn 13-4. West End blew the game open with an eight-run fifth inning. Chuck Gandolfi and Don Prazak led the winners with three hits each, with Gandolfi doubling and Prazak tripling. Prazak knocked in three runs. Huemann's 9, Lakeside 7 Jay Huemann's two-run single capped a four-run sixth inning and allowed Huemann's Water Conditioning to edge Lakeside Inn 9-7. The win was Huemann's first since opening night. Lakeside Inn scored once in the tjbe seventh inning, but left the tying runs on base stranded. Lakeside Inn also helped out Huemann's cause with sue errors. , Bud Smith tripled and singled to lead the winners in hitting. Tom Janik also had two hits. Brad May homered for Lakeside.
