County youth orchestra to begin rehearsals SECTION 2 - PAGE 7 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY, JUNE 20,1964 "Hie McHenry County Youth Orchestra will hold its first rehearsal of the summer Thursday evening, June 21, at Central Elementary School Crystal Lake. Full Orchestra rehearsing will be from 6 to 7 p.m. and Chamber Orchestra rehearsing will be from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. A summer concert date during the last week of July will be decided by the first rehearsal. Membership in the regular orchestra is open to qualified gtllring, wind, and percussion players. A placement audition is required. New members are invited to sit in on the first rehearsal, June 21, and audition between 7 and 7:45 p.m. that evening. Auditions will consist of selected scales, a short ex­ cerpt of a piece the musician knows well, and some sight- reading. Hie String Reading Orchestra will continue again this summer and is designed for young string players, primarily those from a Sttzuki background. The Reading Orchestra will meet on Thursdays, beginning on June 21, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Central Elementary School in Crystal Lake: noon to 12:30 p.m. for all violins; and 12:30 to 1 p.m. for all players. New this summer will be the Intermediate Strings, a string instruction and orchestra ex­ perience for the traditionally trained string player entering grades five to eight in the fall, 1984. The program will meet on Tuesday and Thursday mor­ nings at Centred Elementary School in Crystal Lake. Each student will be assigned to one 30-minute group lesson and two 60-minute orchestra rehearsals per week beginning im­ mediately. Class lessons in double bass will also continue this summer and will meet six Thursdays from June 21 to July 26 at 5:30 p.m. at Central Elementary School.
