Joe and Rosa Visconti's daughter Antoinette and Giovanni Fucarino of Sicily, gave birth to an 8% lb girl on June 19, their first child. Because of the difference in time, (7 hours), between Sicily and here, we're not sure of the time of arrival. This is also Joe and Rosa's second grandchild. Congratulations to all of you. WEEKEND CAM POUT This weekend is the annual campout for the Greenwood- Ringwood parish at Chain 0' Lakes State Park. If you are not interested in overnight cam ping, you are welcome to visit the group during the day and share in the fellowship. Saturday evening's meal will be a cooperative "stew" so bring a vegetable or meat to put in the kettle during the day. Sunday morning church services will be held at the regular times and places, to be followed by a potluck dinner at noon at the camp. Be sure to bring your own table service and beverage with your dish-to- share. WELCOME 1st CHILD A1 and Nancy (Kane) Smith welcomed a little girl into their family last Saturday, June 16. Erin Melissa was born at Harvard hospital weighing 7 lbs., 2 oz. and measuring 20% inches. Paternal grandparents are Alvian and Marie Smith of Harvard. Maternal grand parents are Ed and Marion Kane of Marlbrough, Conn, and great grandparents are Glen and Betty Sarner of Colchester, Conn. All three couples are former residents of McHenry. Last Sunday, Al's sisters, Judy Ahrens and Irma Killoy, hosted a baby shower at the Ringwood church but un fortunately (or fortunately) the guests of honor could not be present. However, everyone present enjoyed themselves. Lisa and Kris Ahrens and Grace Coolidge were in charge of games. The gifts were left wrapped for Nancy and A1 to open but the ladies told what their package contained so everyone had an idea of what Erin was receiving. SEWING WORK DAY Trudi Hohmann of Wonder Lake will be having the sewing work day at her home, with Althea Walkington and Katy Christopher co-hosting. This will be held Thursday, June 28, at 10:30 a.m. MOTHER NATURE We have our own Mother Nature's helper here on Barnard Mill Rd. Sally Delby nursed a little 8 to 10-hour old kitten for three days until a surrogate mother cat had her own kittens (4). Then, we just slipped the orphaned kitten in with the other new kittens and the new mom accepted him. All are doing just fine. They now have their eyes open and really get around. Thanks Sally. TRAVELERS Walt and Doris Low traveled to Cabery, 111., near Kankakee, this past weekend 'to visit with friends they met while in Florida two years ago. Twas a hot day fpr travelling but an enjoyable visit. They also checked out a couple of cam pgrounds on the way. If the fishing was good there was no camping, so they're still looking. Oh well, they all look good until you get there. Working full time, chairing the Chamber of Commerce's popular Missi McHenry contest, and planning! for her wedding, does not leave | much time for R & R. She has been actively involved with choosing Miss McHenry, first as a contestant and then as an assistant advisor, and now has full charge of the event, which takes hours of planning and time spent with beautiful young ladies of the McHenry area. Sundae's wedding will take place in the fall, and as all brides-to-be and their families know, much planning and time goes into this happy event. She is a very busy lady. OTHER BUSY LADY Being director of a summer Bible school program for the first time, tests one's organizational abilities. Dottie Mentzer proved her capabilities from June 4 through June 8 at the First United Methodist Church, where 68 youngsters from three to 11 years old were given planned Christ-centered activities from 9 to 11:30 every morning. Phyllis Croswell, also of Lilymoor, was in charge of the art crafts. It was a fun and learning experience, growing in Christian fellowship, for all the youngsters and their leaders. Then, Dottie went on to supervise her unit of 20 girls at the Girl Scout Day Camp held Margaret Karas 385-4934 from June 18 to the 22nd at the Harrison Benwell Forest Preserve in McCullom Lake from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dottie had charge of the first and second grade Brownies. Daughter Joanna was given a "vacation" from her mother's direction, and was in a different unit all week. Pre-Brownie daughter Heather attended her mother's unit for the last three days in preparation for her entry into Brownies in the fall. Dottie also attended a workshop for scouting leaders. She will now be able to plan for additional troops and find volunteer leaders who are willing to give of their talent and time to help our young girl children develop into respon sible, caring, helpful adults. All it takes to become involved in scouting, is a willingness to share knowledge, and un derstanding of young people, laid the guts to say "yes, I will try to live up to the Girl Scout Laws". On my honor DAYS OF JOY June weddings are being remembered by at least three area couples this coming week. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Dember celebrate theirs June 22. Walter and Joan O'Brien have made it to their twenty-second on June 23. And Helmut and Marion Vornkahl celebrate their twenty-third on the 24th. May love always enrich your lives. Birthday time for Denise May hew, who has been learning about library work this summer, is June 25. Hal Vornkahl, he who has his twenty-third wedding anniversary on the 24th, recognizes his birthday on the 27th, giving two reasons for a celebration. CHRISTMAS IN JUNE Little Heather Mentzer was a bit shy at welcoming ten fellow kindergartners to her birthday party June 16, as die had not seen some of them since school's ending. Mother Dottie knew that many of the youngsters might not share any more ties, as only five would be classmates of Heather's at Hilltop hi first grade. Also at the party were Heather's aunt Peggy and cousins Wendy and Billy Hardt from Fox Lake, sister Dottie and niece Erica. The rain held off, even though the garage had been decorated in anticipation of that event. The ET cake, the only kind available in Heather's favorite chocolate, was enjoyed with ice cream. ' And, of course, opening presents, for which Heather herself will send thank you cards, was almost like celebrating Christmas in the middle of the year. FEELING BETTER Pat Morrison had been hospitalized with what was determined as an asthmatic condition and has now returned to her position at the Village of Lakemoor. She and Norm had been helping their son in his family's move to Richmond, Va. This is the first of their children to move out of state. Perhaps this will be an impetus to do some traveling for Pat and Norm in the future. Get well wishes are also sent to Alyce and Andy Kowal, who have beoth been under the weather these past weeks. LOCAL ACTIVITIES The only way any organizational function is going to appear in the Lakemoor Lilymoor Area column, is if it is given to me by telephone, letter, pony express, or any mode except osmosis. I do not receive news items via satellite, therefore am unable to make note of any activities other than those given to me personally. CONGRATULATIONS Millie Nedejedly and Stan Zabroski were united in marriage May 31. Wishes for happiness go to two very deserving people as they start their lives together in Lakemoor. GOD BLESS Conple abandons baby while robbing station By Kirk Blrgtnal Plaindealer news service A Crystal Lake couple held in the McHenry County Jail Monday have been charged with leaving their 7-month-old daughter in an unlocked car while they burglarized a nearby service station. David Peterson, of 936 Coventry Lane, and Wendy Huber, of 281 Union St., both 20, face charges of burglary, criminal damage to property and numerous traffic violations after police say they broke into the J&L gas station on Illinois 176 in Crystal Lake. Police were called by a resident who said he heard glass being broken at the station at about 2:15 a.m. last Thursday. An officer arrived at the station and found a window had been broken. Another patrolman coming to the scene spotted a motorcycle with two riders trying to flee through an empty field. Police caught up with the cycle after a brief chase and arrested Peterson and Huber. According to police, after breaking the window, the couple reached inside the station and took $15 worth of miscellaneous merchandise. They caused about $300 worth of damage to the window, police said. Police later discovered that the couple's infant daughter, Melissa Huber, had been left unattended in a car parked behind a tavern at 109 N. Main » St., about a half mile away from the station. Police turned the child over to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, which in turn gave custody of the girl to Huber's grandmother, officials said. The couple have also been charged with contributing to the dependency and neglect of a child. Peterson, being held on $13,000 bond, and Huber, held on $7,000 bond, are scheduled for a court hearing on June 25. A star-studded celebration of kids, courage and hope! See miracles in the making as courageous children, their families and doctors wage a heroic war of hope against childhood's deadliest killers.
