Summer officially arrived June 20, but there is still time to take a look at one's wardrobe to make sure it includes the clothes which are needed for this According to McHenry County Extension adviser Kathy Halstead. "There are all kinds of specialty clothing for every athlkic activity-from jogging to tennis, handball to aerobic dance." - "And even if you cant afford to buy a new outfit for every sport you try, you may be able to make activewear that's every bit as good looking and com fortable as the kinds you can buy at the store. Pattern companies are putting more and more designs in their catalogs to meet this growing need among home sewers," she adds. She suggests, "Regardless of the activity you choose, you should look for clothes that are: made with durability in mind, have a comfortable fit for easy movement, have soft fabric to prevent chafing, are made of absorbent fibers-natural fibers such as cotton or wool-or have a special finish to increase ab- sorbency, are lightweight, easy to take care of, and easy to put on and off." "It's important that they are safe. In early morning, in the fog, or in the evening, it's best to wear light-colored garments. For extra safety, choose gar ments with a reflective finish or wear an armband, socks or shoelaces of reflective yarn." "Also remember that light colors will reflect light and beat, keeping you cooler than dark colors will. On hot, humid days, absorbent fibers are especially important for comfort. And keep in mind that nylon mesh repels perspiration and is non- chafing." Community Calendar JUNE 23 McH. Sportsmen's Cftub-Weingart Rd.-Practice Shoot, 1 p.m.- Public Welcome. McH.
