Palmer is no stranger to the microphone, having been widely acclaimed when he added his expert commentary to Howard Cosell and the boys during * the 1981 World Series, as well as the 1978, 1980 and 1982 American League Championship Series. As for his TV commercials, it's a good bet that more people know him as the man who. after using his favorite shampoo, shows he has no dandruff after three days than know him as a three-time American League Cy Young Award winner. Under­ wear lovers probably don't even know he's a ballplayer. And what a ballplayer! The right-handed pitcher won 268 games in his 19 years with the Baltimore Orioles, including one no-hitter and five one-hitters. In World Series play he won four and lost two. and he represented Balti­ more in five All-Star games. In working the ABC mikes. Palmer is with Earl Weaver (his old Baltimore manager). former Dodger great Don Drysdale and the new man on ABC's block, Tim McCarver. McCarver, the former mapr-league standout catcher of the Cardinals and Phillies, has proven very knowledgeable as a local New York Mets announcer. The idea of Palmer and Weaver meeting in the friendly confines of the broadcast booth is an intri­ guing one.
