Study free product' restrictions carefully SECTION 2 - PAGE 11 - PLAINDE ALER - WEDNESDAY. JULY 11.1*84 By June Filler Dear June: I had sent in several toothpaste proofs of purchase and received a coupon for a free tube, with a maximum value up to $2.25. When I got to the store the size I wanted was on sale for $1.29. Since I felt I wouldn't get the full value of my free product coupon, I asked the cashier if I could use the coupon to buy two tubes and pay the 53 cent difference. She said it was all right with her, but I wonder whether I did the right thing What do you think? - Ronni Todd, Mt. Airy, Ga. Dear Ronni: Almost every coupon, including the free product coupons we receive as a result of refunding, carry the restriction "one coupon per purchase." If your free tooth paste coupon had these words printed on it, then the cashier was wrong to allow you to redeem it on two tubes. Each tube is a separate purchase and would require a separate coupon. Dear June: I found a good way to remove labels from all types of jars and bottles. As soon as the dishwasher cycle has been completed, I immediately empty the dishwasher and fill it with these jars and bottles. I don't have to run the washer again because the existing heat and moisture are usually enough to do the trick. Dear Eileen: That's what I call putting thermal energy to good use. Hiank you for the helpful tip. Dear June: One of our grocery stores had a double-coupon week. I filled two grocery carts The Coupon Clipper with items for which I had coupons. I was too busy unloading the groceries to check as each item was rung up.Jtyjt I made sure to glance at the subtotal before the cashier started to deduct my coupons. The subtotal was $161.59. It took the cashier quite awhile to deduct my coupons, and when she was finished, the tape showed that my final total was $221.79! Needless to say, I was quite surprised. When the cashier discovered the mistake, she sought the advice of the head cashier, who called the assistant manager, who called the manager. It was finally decided to ring up my entire order again. When this was completed, the total was $101.39. It was well worth the time at the checkout counter to catch such a big mistake. -Anne Durans, Catonsville, Md Dear Anne: Your letter clearly shows that it pays to keep your eyes open at the checkout counter. Cashiers are only human (some people forget this) and mistakes do happen. But the careful shopper can usually spot the big ones right there where they can be im mediately corrected. The small ones we catch at home by a quick double-check of the register tape. Here's a refund form to write for: A $1.50 to $3 Refund. STYLE $1.50 to $3 Refund Offer, P.O.
