MM Sports Uagin Golf Chapel HNI ladies The last aay of the tournament in the Tuesday Ladies League Sonia Miller had a nice chip in on 13 and Lucy Prouty not only chipped in on 15 but also on 18 for a birdie. Lucy also kept her putts down to 12 for the nine holes. The final results of the tour nament after combining the two best net scores resulted in a tie between Lucy Prouty and Lou Stine for first place in Class A with 65. Women's 16-inch RIVER SHANNON 16, GREG'S NEVER INN 2 - Shannon plated 10 runs in the second, the big hit a homer by Lora Jacobs, and went on to win easily. The win moves Shannon to 1(H) on the season. Other big hitters for the winners were Annette Coughlin, who had three hits, two RBI, and two runs scored, Sharon Smith and Brenda Bingman each of whom bad two hits. iMary Ellen King was the winning pitcher, as Greg's could manage just four hits. Paulette Erickson and Dorothy Steadman scored Greg's runs. AFTER THE FOX 8, OLD BRIDGE 2 After the Fox broke open a close game with four in the seventh to win going away. Peggy Fookes had three hits and an RBI for the winners, and JoAnne Bye and Patty Vavrik chipped in two each. Vavrik was also the winning pitcher, going seven inings, allowing only nine hits and a walk, with one strikeout. OAK PARK LOUNGE 3, ED'S RENTAL 0 Oak Park hurler Nancy Glick shut out Ed's on two hits, as single runs in the first, second and third were all the winners needed. Oak Park could manage only six hits, but used them wisely. Kelly Ludwig scored on Sandy Rohrer's ground-out in the first, Cathy Carpenter tallied on a Kathy Fisher ground-out in the second, and in the third, Mary Koleno's single scored Ludwig to provide the final margin. Koleno had two hits for the game. Fisher acfded a double. Ed's Diane Michels and Oak Park's Joyce Jaskow both turned in sparkling defensive plays. In Class C, Georgia Bauer and Maryann Doetsch tied for first with 65. Mary Samkus came in second with 67 and Marge Olszewski captured third with 68. On Tuesday, July 10, the ladies resumed match play. The hot and very humid weather was probably a contributing factor to a lot of mysterious happenings. Done Freund was astonished to see her ball hit an obstacle and travel backward into the water. Marilyn Ehlen managed to hit two balls into the same bush on 1, and Pat Bitterman hit the same tree twice on 2. Corky Weber hit a flower box on 5 and knocked her ball back ward, but still managed to par the hole. On the good side, Darlene Huemann chipped in on 14 and Isabel McGady chipped in on 6. The new team standings will be reported after the play of July 17. McHenry Country Club ladles The Divot Dolls of McHenry Country Club played the fin*l week of match play Tuesday. Victorious in Flight I was Virginia Turner, defeating Judy Smithson. In Flight n, Linda Puccio downed Evie Castle. Flight m saw Carol Bolger beat Ethel Koehler. Roni Cepulis was the Flight IV champ, as she beat Betty Wayman. The event for the other golfers was tee to green. The winners were: Class A - Carol Cooney. Following Carol were Lynn Sch midt and Alvina Yopp, who tied for second. In Class B, first [dace wait to Joan Blair, followed by Gloria Otth, second, and Evie Castle third. Class C honors went to Kathy Vehring. Kathy finished ahead of Ruth Heisel and Speedy Neuman. Physicals given at East McHenry High School will conduct its physical day for all Warrior athletes Monday, July 16 at 6 p.m. The program will take place at East Campus. Hie physicals will he given by Dr. Jim Mowery and other local physicians. The session will last until all physicals are completed. McHenry athletes entering their sophomore, junior or senior year, are invited. The cost is S10. Ardis Miller won Class Dv Dee Chelini second and Lottie Koch third. Those winning in Class play for the day were: Lynn Schmidt in Class A first low net, with a 66. Second low net was Joan Buss with 70, and Joan also won low putts, with 29. Gloria Spiess had a low net of 68 for Class B. Evie Castle, Linda Puccio and Gloria Otth tied for second low net with 72s. Low putts for the group was won by Gloria Otth and Char Zwissler, with 30. Kathy Vehring and Speedy Neuman took Class C honors with 68, and the two tied with Ursula Cisliek for low putts with 31 each. In Class D acticn, Ardis Miller won low net with 67, and Lottie Koch was second with 79. Barbara Vejvoda won low putts with 35. There were a number of birdies and chip-ins. Joan Buss was the star, with birds on 6, 10 and 14. Floss Miller had one on 12, Dorothy Shadel on 18, Kathy Vehring on 14, Joan Schloskey on 14, Lynn Schmidt on 6, Virginia Turner on 8, and Carol Cooney on 15.
