On Saturday, July 21, Junior Olympics will begin at Petersen park Beach at 9 a.m., and im­ mediately following at 11 a.m. fiat activities for children will continue, through the. cooperation of many of McHenry's service, civic and church organizations. ' i From a train ride to a treasure hunt, from an obstacle course to a lollipop tree, from face painting to the funny antics of clowns, a variety of family fun will be presented 'by the following, local organizations: CCA: Citizens for Community Action,Fox Ridge Women's Club, LaLeche League, Hospice for McHenry County, Parkland PTO, Operation Snowball, Youth Service Bureau, Mt. Hope Methodist Church, St. Patrick's Church, St. Mary's Church, McCullom Lake Conservation District, Rotary Club and the Northern Illinois Health Ser­ vices Corp. Denny Welter, Family Fest chairman, stated that all organizations in the McHenry area were invited to sponsor a booth for the event. There was a lot of interest from many more organizations besides those who are actually participating," he said. "Many of those simply couldn't decide how Jo par­ ticipate. I hope that each of those organizations will send a few of their members to Family Fest to seed ideas for next year. We're looking forward to a good turnout. We have lots to offer each age group and are really anxious to experience the kids' response." Refreshments will be available but picnics are also encouraged. Rehearsals slated for New Oratorio Singers Rehearsals for the New Oratorio Singers, under the direction of Thomas Wikman, will be held Monday, July 23 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Salem Methodist Church, Barrington. Practice sessions will be held twice a week during the summer in preparation for an early fall concert. All active members, plus prospective members are in-. vited. Auditions for newcomers will be scheduled one-half hour before rehearsals during the first few weeks until Wikman has had the opportunity to hear all new singers. Appointments for auditions may be made by telephoning Michael Emrich (815) 459-0455. The 1984-85 season, the sixth, for the New Oratorio Singers, will begin with a performance of "Elijah", Oct. 14 at St. John The Baptist in Johnsburg. Singing in the title role will be Timothy Noble, internationally ac­ claimed baritone. The group performs with a professional orchestra comprised ofmemhers of the Chicago Symphony and Chicago Lyric Opera Symphony.
