Last week it was an invitation to join Henry and Mary Mut- schinsky, and Jerry and Mar- cella Wakitsch for dinner at Old Mill Inn. Sitting at a round table (I'm a round table man), we had real fun. So I Hear M by Earl Walsh Folk-rock artist Koloc to perform at Opera House Bonnie Koloc, folk-rock and jazz singer-composer, will perform at the Woodstock Opera House on Saturday, August 4, at 8 15 p.m. For her performance it the Opera House, Koloc will oe accompanied by four musicians. Tlie dinner get-together had been postponed due to my little problems, then, by chance, it became a celebration of Henry and Mary's anniversary. As we settled down at the table, Mary presented me with a baseball which was autographed by White Sox players at the Sarasota training camp. This was no ordinary old baseball. Nope. There was a message on it for me and it was mounted on one of the classiest holders you can imagine. To make the package all the more appealing, Mary cut out newspaper headlines to paste on the wrapping. We liked these: Sox Cooking - Sea vers' 57th shutout Sox win in the 25th We would have to look around a while to find a nicer couple to join for an evening of fun and good fellowship. We noticed what we thought was a convention of ducks and wondered where the drakes had gone. So we consulted a duck expert, Don Howard. What we thought were hens turned out to be drakes. Don explained that at this time of year the he-males lose their beautiful colors. Experts call it duck-out. Color isn't all the drakes lose. They also lose interest in romance and turn to food. How would we know if we didn't ask? I sat in a shopping center and noticed that no two persons walk alike. One time my father-in-law saw me walk down the street and said my gait was just lite my father's. As I observed, it seemed that some were pacers, some were trotters, some were race horses, some were plow horses. It's a revoltin' development. Down at McHenry Country Club, Dorothy, the hostess with the mostest, and that smiling little waitress Kim, are Cub fans. I left them with a song - "I used to love you, but ooo". Speaking of songs. While shaving every morning, a different song comes to mind. I don't sing very pretty, but close the door to save anybody who might be listening. Hadn't heard the song in ages, but out came: "They cut down the old pine tree and they hauled it away to the mill to make a coffin of pine for that sweetheart of mine-- Oh, they cut down the old pine tree." _ We recently enjoyed a B & B treat at our house. Barb Weber and Biff Meyer are gardeners and they remembered that the extent of my gardening is growing rhubarb. You can't beat friends. It wasn't planned by any means, but Saturday found us joining Henry and Mary to see the White Sox - Yankee game. After much hesitancy due to what I jokingly call fear of having one of those "spells" we took off. I have passed up games and other events in recent months because long rides and long sittings brought problems. As much as I enjoyed the game, I wouldn't go back soon. Don't want to press my luck. The Yankees aren't the Bombers of old, but they are a good ball team. They beat our Sox, 3-2. No errors in that game. Of course, the Sox did belt out a couple of hard drives that were caught, but leaving 14 runners stranded is nothing to write home about. We saw Vance Law make the switch from third base to center field in great style. He caught everything that came his way and gunned down a runner at home plate with a bullet of a throw. iw a good ball game, but a reversed score would have pleased us. Henry's Cubs blasted the Mets the same day so there was one happy fellow in our crowd. Henry took us to a Ya-Ya German restaurant where the band didn't play "My Wild Irish Rose". Arnold What's-His-Name would have been in his glory in that place. OLD SAYING: Old sparks are easily kindled.
