Besides his 23 years as a musician, Watson also is a singer. He estimates that he knows more than 800 songs by heart and his performing repertoire includes traditional sixteenth century ballads, blues, bluegrass, country-western music, early rock and roll standards and songs by con­ temporary artists and com­ posers. His talents were recognized by the music industry when he was presented three Grammy awards, the most recent received in 1979 for Best Country Instrumental Performance.
